Company Culture

Strong national companies and employees brought together has been somewhat challenging to make work. Corporate IT and local IT units with their own pain points creates diverse organizational issues. Endless amount of meetings back to back.

Support from management

The support from above the closest manager is rather easy to get if the closest manager is not able.

Teamwork

Country units vs corporate units has been hurdle to overcome. Internal politics and budgeting limits are sometimes hindering cross organizational collaboration and team work.

Freedom to work independently

Depending on the position and if you can deliver you will have the freedom to work from where you want, however the company policy have been changing every now and then. Last big chance was the new head office building with mainly open space office and no named seats, lots of buzzing and traffic around you and not enough silent rooms to concentrate on the work.

Internal Communication

In the past years numerous and big organizational rearrangements, brand renewals, new CEO's and top down mission statement changes have left their mark.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older generation close to retirement age has been targeted or it seems like that whenever there has been layoff's after re-structuring.

Career Development

In a big company like this there are lot to choose from, That said, from my personal view and due to constant reorganization activities all over the company you need to be active and plan what you want, otherwise someone else will decide for you and place you in a part of organization you really don't want to be.

Overall compensation for your work

Reasonable, but not necessarily world class, depends of course on the title and the job responsibilities. At least the CEO level gets good compensations.

Office / Work Environment

Lot of changes in the past few years. Head office is now in totally new building, most of the country offices are usually in older buildings with some limitations in functionality. Open spaces almost everywhere, meeting rooms are scarce and silent rooms constantly reserved.

Environmental Friendliness

Strict recycling policies and limitations in printing, no disposable paper cups etc-. Partly automated office lights with motion sensors, A/C timed to main office hours, ISO 14001

Work-Life Balance

Remote work can be arranged if tasks allows. In-house gym free to use, numerous clubs to attend to. Good benefits like free mobile phone, internet access to home, health care, possibility to company car, lunch fee compensations to name the most important.

Company Image

Some set backs years ago might still be remembered by the local population, but mainly the external image is good.

Job Security

During my time in the company over 10 CEO´s has caused a lot of movement in the company, and the trend seems to continue.

Handicapped Accessibility

Elevators in all main corridors, but older buildings has their challenge spots like narrow corridors and steep staircases.

Workplace Safety

Regular employee surveys and reminders, including health and privacy issues.

Challenging Work

Yes, it can be very challenging, lot of proprietary IT systems in place with their own irks. Cultural differences between main market areas, sometimes slow decision making process and constant meetings, are causing slowness and challenges of their own. Projects can be stalled due to massive requirement needs etc.

Inclusive / Diverse

My previous team of 5 had 4 different nationalities and a virtual team members from three additional countries.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Long history of doing things on their own way, makes newcomers somewhat overwhelmed about the diversity of different systems and work habits. Numerous attempts to move towards more commercial products and support systems have been challenging to say at the least.

What I like about the company

The amount of expertise in the house, and while there are internal (highly specialized systems) and external challenges (like national regulation) the people are able to do their job extremely well. Also the benefits are something extraordinary, 5 weeks holiday, possibility to remote work, etc.

What I dislike about the company

Constant reorganization and laying off people, outsourcing, near-sourcing and changing vision and mission every few years.
