Telvista, Inc. experience report

OK as a temporary thing, but a terrible place overall

Company Culture

People are commended for good work. However, there is no trust between employees when looking at getting ahead, and people in position to make decisions manipulate the system.

Support from management

Supervisors are lazy or reserved. Their bosses are never available to take feedback.

Teamwork

People are punished for helping others.

Freedom to work independently

No one has a say in the way things are run.

Internal Communication

Meetings and trainings used to be frequent. Both have been stopped for over a month and a half now.

Gender Equality

Gender doesn't seem to make a difference. Site director is a woman.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Employees are treated the same as any other, new or old.

Career Development

Positions that come open are frequently hired internally. However people in position to make decisions tend to manipulate the system to get who they want.

Overall compensation for your work

Payment is timely. If you have any issues, Payroll tends to be slow to respond and unwilling to cooperate unless you hound them.

Office / Work Environment

Place is usually cold, but otherwise quite agreeable.

Work-Life Balance

Paid Time Off is easily manageable. Although difficult to get desirable schedule, hours are workable.

Company Image

Employees often talk about trying to get away from the company, and it has a poor reputation as a 'hire and fire' type of place.

Job Security

Far too easy to get placed in a position where the company can let you go on a whim.

Inclusive / Diverse

People have little say in what goes on, although they are encouraged to be creative to an extent when dealing with customers.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Reduce the hostility in the workplace for aiding other employees. If the primary goal is to assist the customer, it does no good to be forced to ignore the employees that have questions or need additional help. Also, formulate a more mediated way to determine position advancement. Promotions should be based on merit; not popularity. Also, determine what we are trying to do as a company. A 3-word slogan does not give a sense of what we're doing. Higher ups should communicate with the employees so that everyone is on the same page.

What I like about the company

Steady income with benefits, sociable employees, reliable schedule, useful absence 'point system' and '3 Personal Days' to cover unplanned time away from work and easy-to-use PTO for planned days off or vacations.

What I dislike about the company

Easily manipulated system for promotions, competitive environment in dealing with a non-competitive product (customer service), punishment for helping other employees, no sense of direction, easy to be forced out of employment.
