There is an attempt to involve employees in company and community activities by HR, but senior management doesn't seem to be visible in this effort.
Support from management
My direct supervisor as well as the department supervisor support me in my daily activities, however, they promote new hires over me for a job I wanted. They indicate I'm "too valuable to lose" regarding my current position.
Departments need to work together better and want to help each other succeed.
Freedom to work independently
I am free to incorporate new technologies in my designs.
Communications between departments is lacking, especially when it comes to issues out in the field that could benefit future designs.
There are more women working in positions I have seen them working before.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There are a number of senior engineers who could be utilized for mentoring but the company philosophy is such that they don't like multiple engineers working together.
I try to advance my career by taking night classes but the company does not recognize my efforts.
Overall compensation for your work
I feel that competition for my job is well under industry standards. I basically work for a loss each year as we get no cost of living increases.
Office / Work Environment
They recently remodeled the office area, gave us new desks, etc. While a little small, they are nice.
I think the company complies with environmental standards better now than in the past.
I'm always home nearly every evening, I work 5 days a week with occasional travel to break things up.
The company has become a global leader due to the acquisition of other businesses worldwide.
With all the new hires coming in above me, I am feeling like the company is phasing me out.
90% of the campus is at ground level.
Under our new safety coordinator, safety priority has been elevated to a new awareness.
I am looking for more challinging work but what I am doing now provides adequate challenges.
Inclusive / Diverse
There is probably more cultural diversity now than at any time in the history of the company.
Suggestions for improvement
- Listen to senior employees. Provide fair opportunities for long term employees instead of ignoring them for promotions.
What I like about the company
Located in a small town.
What I dislike about the company
Ignore the fact that the cost of living is going up, while our wages are not.
