Some people were very friendly while others were extremely unfriendly. In this case of working in schools with children I feel staff should display some level of friendliness.
Support from management
They did make an effort but most times fell short on the follow through. this was particularly apparent with the compensation - who can go unpaid for 2-3 months when they are actively working and asking about the check. The experience was a bit frustrating. However, they were trying to bring the school into this century, implement new programs and foster a positive work environment.
The OT department was standoffish, unhelpful and most times rude. Maybe they didn't like someone new there I have no idea but it was completely unprofessional to treat anyone that way. Lots of last minute notifications of meetings/paperwork due. Dated/broken/dirty materials to work with
Freedom to work independently
Besides needing paperwork and meetings you are pretty much an independent worker.
I was an independent contractor; so I was never aware of events or even days off unless I specifically asked. I also was not paid for 2 months, this was never explained to me. Even after I left I was contacting HR for 3 months for my last paycheck. The checks were also always wrong.
Overall compensation for your work
The salary was fair however, you are paid per session so scheduling is important. Also, do not depend on a check for a good two months.
Office / Work Environment
Supplies were always out and dated materials to work with the students
Since it is a school you have holidays off and get out relatively early. depending on your caseload
They were trying to make some changes
typical paperwork and meetings as expected in any school setting as an independent contractor
Suggestions for improvement
- Updated equipment or separate areas for therapists to work in so they can bring in their own materials without having them taken by another staff member.
What I like about the company
What I dislike about the company
Some staff, delay in pay and not too concerned when I repeatedly asked about it. Dated and dirty environment.
