Suggestions for improvement

  • I felt that much of the staff did not value professionalism. I felt as if I were back in high school most of the time when dealing with my co-workers. It was unfair at times because supervisors played favorites and allowed those who had personal relationships with them to get away with things, such as coming into work extremely late or not at all and leaving the premises once at work. The program manager seemed to want nothing to with certain workers and even had a bit of an attitude at times. The higher ups should be professional at all times, set examples, and treat all workers the same.

What I like about the company

I enjoyed working without much supervision. I also enjoyed working with many of the kids. I grew closer to some more than others, and some really did touch my heart.

What I dislike about the company

The high school culture. Some workers had bad attitudes and seemed to always be on their phones. I would come into work sometimes and everyone would be downstairs, not monitoring the kids. If you weren't open to getting personal and gossiping about other workers, you were viewed as an outsider.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would enforce the rules and make sure that ALL workers follow them or face consequences for their actions.

What I like about the company

Helping the kids to learn and grow in their lives

What I dislike about the company

Start treating ALL workers equally, not giving special privileges to those who have been there longer.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would improve the training, so that every employee can hold their own and react properly to emergency situations. It also would have been nice if the managers and supervisors, who were higher on the "totem pole" would have set a good example, as opposed to abandoning professionalism and acting as if they are on the streets. Also, the favoritism was out of hand, and those who were more "popular" would be allowed to get away with things that others would not be allowed to. If you weren't into exposing your personal life or joining in on gossip, you really did not fit in. I value professionalism and feel as if you should leave your personal life outside of work.

What I like about the company

I grew close to a few of the kids, and enjoyed being not only a counselor, but a friend in times of need to them.

What I dislike about the company

Too much gossip, not enough training...I was basically told "You'll develop your own style" when I showed concern about not knowing how to do certain things. I basically had to figure out how to fill out certain paperwork, including what to do when a client leaves the premises without permission and proper supervision. It was a disaster at times and I feel as if they should go through exactly what to do if an emergency occurs with EVERY employee, regardless of what shift they work.
