Freedom to work independently
There is not a lot of flexibility. It's retail hours- nights and weekends. It's where the business lies.
Suggestions for improvement
- It's not so much the company, but the line of business. It's retail for crying out loud! The hours are challenging on a family- working on holidays. They do the best of all retailers speaking from the store level, and I have worked for many of them. If there was anyway to rotate the schedule in a different way...maybe 3/12 like a nurses schedule.
What I like about the company
I liked how The Container Store had a lot of positive energy. The atmosphere is very encouraging. As for as retail goes, this is the best place to work. They are as flexible as they can be regarding schedules (though you still work nights and weekends). The pay is decent. They have very high standards for everyone. Everyone is important and is expected to deliver their best each and everyday. They empower all of their employees. They actually expect you to change the environment for the better and welcome your contribution and suggestions.
What I dislike about the company
It's hard work just to sell plastic containers. You would think you were saving the world from starvation the way they embrace their mission. It's great to have passion, but they actually cry over major company events... it's pretty intense. I'm a passionate person, but would like to actually change someone's life instead of just make it organized. (Though this is one of their big claims- "We are actually transforming/changing peoples lives through organization! We are making a difference."
