Support from management
Chain of command up through crew chief.
Sometimes a dud shows up assigned to your team to cover vacationing personnel but work together or risk getting injured.
Freedom to work independently
Stand watch alone with a lot of responsibility.
Continued training is key to successful operations.
As long as they are physically capable of running and catching a moving rope they are welcome.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Older workers are usually encouraged to advance to crew chief positions.
As long as you apply yourself the opportunities are there.
Overall compensation for your work
It is a trade-off for travel and outdoor work. Per diem compensation is not tied to location so high cost areas involve loss of compensation.
Office / Work Environment
It is outdoor work in various weather.
They do their best but have to work with various fuels and portable generators as part of operations.
Off time is a great opportunity to explore great locations.
High visibility is countered by trade secrecy. The image is for effect.
As long as you perform your duties and stay drug free there is little reduction in personnel.
Job requirements are to be healthy and able to run.
Plenty of training and safety in place for such a highly dangerous occupation.
Suggestions for improvement
- Tie per diem compensation to government sliding scale to offset periods of higher than normal costs for away expenses in Canada or major cities in US.
What I like about the company
Fantastic travel opportunity. Away from home expenses reimbursed.
What I dislike about the company
Difficult to transfer without crew chief recommendation. Periods of very hard labor balanced by many hours or days of inactivity.
