- The McClatchy Company04.Jan 2019
The culture changed a few years ago while they went through a multi-year re-org. Employees are no longer valued.
Suggestions for improvement
- I can think of nothing that this company would do to fix the path they are on. Money and greed have become their gods and no one is exempt from the layoff if management deems them obsolete or finds someone younger to take their place.
What I like about the company
The company began deteriorating in 2016. Furloughs and layoffs became commonplace. Employees became property, not people. We were lied to often about what was happening with the re-org. Asked at a company meeting if a specific team was in peril, the answer from the president was absolutely not. Three months later, the entire department was eliminated.
What I dislike about the company
Established workers were slowly eased out as the company hired more and more 20-30 year olds. Work was being sent overseas to India or to other departments. When asked, the response was not cordial, employees were no longer viewed as assets but as something to use up with no loyalty from the company for 10-15, 30+ years of service. More and mor jobs moved overseas. Our IT department not only moved out of the building but to India. We could not understand the strong accents on the phone when trying to debug our own laptops, often resorting to texts to communicate.
