Support from management

You get little to no help from your managerial staff so you're on your own even if there is a problem and they are always understaffed because employee turnover is awful. So you definitely need to be able to work on your own.

Teamwork

Employees don't get recognized for being team players so there is nothing that encourages teamwork. Managerial staff aren't team players either i.e. If a section is understaffed and they can help fill the void they won't.

Freedom to work independently

You get little to no help from your managerial staff so you're on your own even if there is a problem and they are always understaffed because employee turnover is awful. So you definitely need to be able to work on your own.

Communication within departments and communication between different departments needs improvement

Attitude towards older colleagues

This is a dead end job so most of the people that were there in my department were older. The young employees quickly realize and then move on.

No opportunity for growth here. No opportunity to learn anything new

Employees are under paid but they expect you to go above and beyond for the organization.

Office / Work Environment

People were miserable in the department I worked in. All of the employees complained all the time and there was an overall dislike for the department head because she was rude and unprofessional

Environmental Friendliness

I will mark this with 5 stars because I honestly don't know what their environmental footprint is

Work-Life Balance

No issue here

Job Security

They are desperate and need employees so there is no fear of losing your job unless the hospital folds.

Workplace Safety

I requested more biohazard sharps containers in my work area that would make the workplace safer and would prevent biohazardous sharps from being exposed and was denied.

Challenging Work

The job it's self wasn't challenging but it becomes a challenge when you're under staff, under appreciated and management doesn't help you.

Inclusive / Diverse

This is an issue. The entire institution doesn't have a diversity problem but some of the employees were against diversity and treated others poorly because of it. If you file a grievance you'll be dismissed and your grievance is made public knowledge and you'll face retaliation.

Suggestions for improvement

  • This hospital needs more resources and a complete over haul of management. They should look into offering career development plans to their employees that are looking to go to the next level in their careers. If you do file a grievance it doesn't get you anywhere so the HR department as well as department head needs to do better in how they handle these situations. They do not keep confidentiality with patients or employees information.

They are bad at following policies and procedures and if you try to follow them you can get penalized and face scrutiny depending on which department you work in. The organization doesn't care about you as a person or as an employee and it's reflected in how they treat you

What I like about the company

Nothing

What I dislike about the company

They don't treat employees with respect. If you try and follow procedures to file a grievance you will be subject to retaliation. Management does not keep anything confidential so if you use your PTO because of personal or health reasons then you should be aware that your peers will know about anything you said in confidence.
