Overall compensation for your work
Nurses as a whole in Alabama should be paid more
Could be more flexible with allowing workers to switch days or allowing someone to work for them.
Suggestions for improvement
- I would provide on site parking for all employees. I would also allow for long paid time off for maternity leave and allow in unit staffing overtime instead of hospital wide. This means the nurses can not pick overtime and work in the area they are most comfortable, they could be sent anywhere in the hospital. This is a safety issue for nurses and patients.
What I like about the company
I love the teamwork of my coworkers and would not voluntarily move to another unit in this hospital.
What I dislike about the company
I feel the company focuses more on making money and less on considering the care and benefits offered to their employees. UAB is one of the only hospitals in Birmingham that does not provide on site parking for all employees. Also the scheduling system was recently changed making it harder for employees to have someone cover their shift if emergencies or sickness arises.
