What I like about the company

during holidays we have potlucks, we do fit and wellness competitions, we have parties for holidays, as well has baby showers. we have a lot of people here and everyone gets along great. somethimes - they pay for lunch or breakfast. during christmas we can win prizes, gc ect. if you reach certain goals you will be rewarded for them .

What I dislike about the company

i disapprove of hours . i think that we should alternate weekends, SO EVeryone will get a chance to have a weekend off

Company Culture

Drama and bulling by employees in the mail order dept and nothing is done by management because they are part of it. People just quit because if you take it to management they always side with the bullies

Support from management

Management only support their buddies and allow the drama and if you tell about treatment you are the one that gets in trouble. Favoritism is everywhere by management from the top down.

Teamwork

Because of the bulling and drama nobody gets along to work together, One group is always pitted against another and management is usually the one causing it.

Freedom to work independently

No training just throw you out there and they are nasty to you when you don't know something and allow others to make fun of you because supervisor goes around and tells her buddies

Each department does it's own thing and warehouse management does nothing

No males are treated better by upper management if a women if you are not a kiss up or pretty you get treated like you are stupid.

Not safe has safety committee that does nothing. Saw people climbing racks not using ladders and because they are the supervisors friends and they do better production they are allowed to do it while the supervisor turns her head.

Easy the only challenge is being able to put up with the people in charge and their buddies.

  • Bad experience every day hated going into work because I never felt my job was secure and things could get dramatic very fast.

Selective with promotion if your someone favorite you will get the promotion. Not always recognized for sale gains.

Internal Communication

District Managers need training and leadership. Training in what is deemed harassment. I believe that some of the leaders of the company should have been under review for bad management style.

Overall compensation for your work

Poor compensation for 45 hours worked. Left The Walking Company and received a 57 % wage increase to work in management for another company. Finally receiving overtime pay for hours over 40 hours a week.

Split days off and every weekend worked. No work life balance

Company Culture

The company does not contribute to a work climate of fairness and trust. They only call to tell you what you are doing right and want corrective action taken for things out of the employees control.

Support from management

Anyone above the store manager was not very helpful. They saw things their own way and never listened to the people in the store doing the actual work. More worried about numbers than facts.

Teamwork

We had a great team of employees within our store. We hired them and trained them, we were like a family!

Freedom to work independently

The workload was fairly distributed. We were a team and got things done together.

There were plenty of meetings to tell you results and give proper training. It was a lot of repeated information though.

The atmosphere was fine. Computers needed updating but everything else was ok.

Families were taken into consideration because we all had them. We were all I school to and our schedules were made around those schedules. They did make you work more during the holidays but it is retail.

Company Culture

Trust is completely gone. There were several instances where corporate deliberately and blatantly lied to all of their employees in stores. Specifically when we were given a commission cut(which turned out to be a loss of approximately $500 a month for a full time employee,) and when making this commission cut we were sent out a memo that stated, "Congratulations, we are now giving you the opportunity to increase your income!" Then, when reviewing the new commission structure and doing the math I realized very quickly that this was a complete lie and the commission was being drastically reduced to practically nothing! Talk about insulting.

Support from management

As most corporations, employees have no control over decision making and corporate will blatantly mislead their employees and have no regard for your well-being. You making them money is the only thing that matters to them, not your happiness and not your pay. You will Never get a raise even after years of service.

Teamwork

It really depends on when your employed and the quality of people your employed with. Good news is that this company has such a high turnover rate that if you don't mesh with someone, they'll get smart and be gone within a few months or weeks anyways.

Freedom to work independently

You have no say and no control. Especially as a manager you will be expected not only to run your entire team beyond perfection but also to keep your numbers and sales better than theirs. The work load and what's expected of you is smothering.

Internal Communication

Communication is blurred, everything regarding keeping track of your numbers has been formulated to be so complicated you have no way of knowing what is and isn't accurate and you have to just trust that what your told is correct and if you question anything you will NEVER get a direct answer, and that's if you even manage to get a reply from anyone. Your expected to just follow blindly while you work yourself to exaustion, digging into a financial pit of doom.

You don't matter, in fact, the longer you've been with the company, the more they want rid of you. They don't like having to give any kind of pay increases or having to explain themselves to people with tenure. If you've been around long enough, you start seeing things for what they really are.

There is no advancement worth taking, the pay is a joke.

Overall compensation for your work

Often time there are discrepancies in pay and your expected not to ask questions. The benefits aren't worth talking about and good luck trying to make enough to pay your simple bills.

Office / Work Environment

All electronics are from the dinosaur age unless your store was just built, and even then you will receive the absolute cheapest option. Regarding breaks, you may or may not get a break during your day which can be as long as ten hrs. You actually sign a waiver upon employment saying that you understand you may not get a break during your work day. This often happens because, again, going back to corporate being so penny pinching and self oriented. The payroll your given, or amount of time designated to having employees on the clock is not nearly enough to keep enough bodies on staff to fairly distribute the work load. Often times you will be faced with several customers at a time for hours.

Environmental Friendliness

Not the slightest awareness of the environment or climate protection. Money money money is this company's only concern. Constant growth and revenue is expected daily which is impossible, and they will get what they want by whatever means necessary, which usually involves cutting your pay!

Work-Life Balance

Your family and social life will not exist anymore. You have to be employed full time for a year before you qualify for vacation time, then, vacation must be submitted far in advance and you are also prohibited from taking any vacation time during the months of November and December. So if you want some family time during Thanksgiving and Christmas, well that's just unacceptable.

Company Image

Every employee I've ever talked to hates their life and considers their time here to have been an epic waste. That's why I'm writing this review to help others avoid wasting their time and energy as I have.

Job Security

No job is ever stable. But at TWC, I've seen people be let go left and right for no reason at all, usually because they have been around too long and are considered a liability.

They try but everything provided in stores is so old you have to be careful.

Challenging Work

You will work yourself to the bone and get nothing for it. Even if your store has a comp gain over last year and you successfully achieved all your goals and were recognized as a top performer, you'll receive a place with your name on it that probably cost them five dollars to make and then you and your hard working employees will be denied a pay raise.

Inclusive / Diverse

Diversity is never supported. It's their way or the highway. This is a very mom and pop type company that grew faster than expected due to copying other brands such as, Dansko, Ecco, Naot, Reiker and many more, so due to this, they are still very behind times in almost all ways that things are run, from marketing to payroll, their behind by a few decades.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Treat your employees like they actually matter, for starters, truthfulness is always key. Start paying your employees for the work that they're doing, people will not stick around when they are over worked and under paid.

What I like about the company

Nothing at all, I despise working for this company. They are very unethical and I can't even pay my simple bills anymore.
