Suggestions for improvement
- More recognition of individual employee efforts. Cut the cost of parking in half. Have REAL company Christmas parties, after hours, with alcohol. Let people bring their partners. Quit letting harassment happen just because the harasser is a Director or higher. No one feels comfortable going to HR when HR never does anything to address an issue.
What I like about the company
My company enables me to see arts and cultural events I wouldn't have otherwise attended, either due to cost or location. I am encouraged to find creative solutions and we are always asked to bring any ideas we have for the improvement of the organization forward.
My coworkers are fantastic people and I enjoy spending time around them. I always feel like my peers have my back when it comes to management disagreements or accusations. The building itself is pretty interesting, and we often have TV and Movie film crews renting out space to film the latest season or newest movie.
Once a month our department head orders us all lunch. We also sometimes have free snacks and drinks, and always free coffee.
What I dislike about the company
Our department head is a very awkward person. They often make inappropriate jokes, making fellow employees feel uncomfortable. Despite mandatory harassment training these jokes continue. They don't seem to mind that they're making everyone uncomfortable.
Management in general plays favorites, promoting favorites over those who have demonstrably more experience and knowledge. It's unfortunate because the whole team suffers when people who are incompetent get promoted to management.
Parking is too expensive for employees. I couldn't list ''parking'' as a perk because $40 is taken out of every single paycheck to pay to park. The alternative is using public transit, which is a joke in this city and doesn't run to my house.
Our department made a huge push to get remote work possible but were told we can't work remotely. Ever. It's unfair - why even have remote desktops if we can't use them? We are lied to a lot and told ''oh it's coming'' and ''Oh it's going to happen'' but it never happens.
The lying from management has to stop. The people who work for you are adults, not your children. Just be honest with them.
