Salaries are a secret, and not equitable across different departments for same job

3.2
Recommended
EmployeeWorked at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA at the time of review.

What I like

Some of the employees I work with are very dedicated and have a great attitude. For the most part people are smart and competent. Leadership is forward thinking in broad strokes.

What I dislike

The salary structure is inequitable. People doing the same job in different departments get paid different amounts, regardless of qualifications, etc. It appears in one case I know of, that the only male in the position gets paid more than multiple females in that job. All job openings lack salary information, sometimes it's hard to tell if a job will be a promotion, lateral or demotion since there's no standardization.

Suggestions for improvement

The 833 Chestnut Street building houses multiple departments but there is no information in the addresses explaining the multiple building entrances. People come in the wrong side ALL DAY LONG and have to be directed to go back outside, which they do not appreciate. At least break addresses into east and west. Allow eye level labels, not insist on making things "pretty" by putting labels above people's heads. They will not look up. Label elevators better.
The inequity of salaries, non-standardized jobs, etc mentioned in earlier comment need a lot of attention. All other academic med centers have a standard description for jobs, and give salary info on their site. Neither public nor intranet mentions these at Jefferson. HR looks very antique when you consider other university's job sites.
Furthermore, the job site doesn't save information. Even as an internal employee, I have to re-enter certain information every single time I apply, and I am not talking about the things that may change like "what hours I want to work". I'm talking about my job history, comes up wrong every time, I have to correct it EVERY TIME and does not save the corrections, it is out of order, if one adds a job it doesn't go to most recent; It asks you how you found out about the job but being a Jeff employee looking at the intranet is not an option and you can't skip the question; my citizenship and so forth do not change every time and I don't think I should have to keep answering that each time. Basically the job interface is a mess.
