Company Culture

There is no culture, staff arrive already feeling exhausted and ready to leave from a busy, emotionally taxing work environment with management who don't seem to care.

Support from management

Management and maintenance, who are supposed to be on call, often turn off their phones and refuse to pick up for emergencies, leaving staff stranded in difficult situations. Will ask what you want as a reward for your yearly anniversary ($25 cap) and stiff you on it indefinitely.

If you have to take the client's out to dinner and your company card is declined, management will often expect you to front the bill. Be prepared to spend weeks waiting to be reimbursed.

Management once asked the overnight shift if there was anything they could do to make the work environment better. Staff asked to be given sandwhich trays on Fridays instead of the usual leftovers from lunch. You know, turkey, ham, tomato, lettuce, that kind of stuff. Management decided to instead provide a tray of 6 slices of bread, three slices of whatever meat they felt like, and 3 slices of fake cheese. Mind you, the kitchen is always full of tomato, lettuce, onions and a full salad bar. It came across as malicious compliance and staff complaints of this were met with nothing but mild annoyance like peasants begging for scraps.

Teamwork

Poor communications between shifts, staff who fight to push the harder work off onto their peers constantly. This includes shift supervisors.

Freedom to work independently

Only because of how short staffed this place always is.

Internal Communication

Expect your schedule to be changed on a whim with little to no notice. Team coordinators often "forget" to inform staff of policy changes. Shift supervisors often forget to inform the next shift when certain clients are LOA, resulting in needless elopement drills.

Gender Equality

This is actually one of the only areas TRR does well.

Career Development

In my half-decade here, I've heard of very few staff being promoted. This facility is much more likely to give you the responsibilities involved in a higher paid position without the pay increase under the title "shift facilitator" rather than "shift supervisor."

Overall compensation for your work

Pay raises are rare. In fact, they just put out a memo that the company will no longer be honoring any merit-based pay raises given in the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Since those already went into play, many of the best staff here just received an effective pay cut.

Office / Work Environment

Buildings often spring leaks and spiders/bugs are a common issue. While this is to be expected in the middle of nowhere, some maintenance requests for fixes to these issues have taken weeks to be resolved.

Environmental Friendliness

No recycling program, no efforts to maintain minimal environmental impact.

Work-Life Balance

Alright balance. Just don't tell the team coordinators you're willing to do overtime or expect to suddenly have 72 hours a week with no prior discussion.

Company Image

They front well.

Job Security

So long as you're not sleeping and show up for work, you'll keep your job. The problem is finding reason to want to keep this job.

Workplace Safety

When TRR isn't making enough money, it becomes common for the administration to admit more profitable (i.e. dangerous/violent/unpredictable) clients who pay more per day. Because we're just about always short staffed, this sometimes means staff are placed in physical danger or with clients which cannot be assisted without physical intervention.

This facility has no security guards, no locking doors, and with management often turning their phones off, minimal backup.

Challenging Work

Oh, it's certainly that. In no other job have I had to stare down men three times my size, clean up more excrement before than I thought a human can produce, and have a 360+ lb kid spit in my face.

Inclusive / Diverse

Mostly super-southern white folks. The amount of times I've been faced with thinly veiled racism and homophobia from colleagues is appalling.

Suggestions for improvement

  • The management needs to start listening to and respecting their staff.

What I like about the company

The overnight shifts are easy and the company does well helping injured people rehabilitate to ordinary life.

What I dislike about the company

Ignorant management who avoid staff concerns and passive aggressively retaliates, a work culture that tries to guilt staff into overworking themselves for poor compensation by appealing to them as "good people who want to help," non-existent or insulting pay raises, trying to make up for the lack of pay raises by giving staff an extra work shirt or two (usually in the wrong size), and the audacity to call staff at any time to ask if they can work an extra shift or three at a moment's notice.
