The expectations are unbearable, but the leadership does work very hard to try to get the staff to "buy in" to the culture. They sell a "doing it for the kids" culture, while they work you to death.
Support from management
It's very unnerving, but administration does regularly check in on you, as in multiple times a week - much, much more than a "normal school."
The worst work-life balance in town. They are notorious for overworking their teachers, for worse than anywhere else I am aware of.
Employees that have "bought in" speak very highly of the company. Those who haven't, typically don't. I will say that they have a fairly strong image to the community, but definitely not the teaching community.
They are notorious for using, abusing and spitting out teachers. Very, very few last more than the 2 years required for Teach-for-America type programs.
yes, as far as I can remember, it was a fairly accident-free environment.
Suggestions for improvement
- More recognition for accomplishments, more bonus opportunities, more specific assistance with how to get all of their expectations done in a reasonable amount of time.
What I like about the company
For brand new teachers, the feedback is very valuable. If you put in the long hours, and do the exorbitant amount of work that is required, you will learn a lot about teaching, and improve drastically.
What I dislike about the company
Not only the long hours and crazy workload, while the feedback is helpful, it can give a very strong "looking over your shoulder at all times" feel, and even a "waiting for you to make a mistake, any mistake, and they will pounce on you," feel.
