Company Culture

A lot of people who spoke & understood little english.

Support from management

No one ever shows you how to complete projects.

Teamwork

Ha ha.

Internal Communication

90% negative communication

Attitude towards older colleagues

Saw them try to force a 60 year old to quit. After 13 years with the company.

Career Development

Very little in store promotions. Was told nobody ever got a. 50 cent raise.

Overall compensation for your work

They couldn't pay me enough to work there again.

Environmental Friendliness

Never saw or heard anything to do with the environment.

Work-Life Balance

Seemed not to care about life outside of work.

Company Image

I was very unhappy here.

Job Security

If you don't finish a project in the unreasonable time they set, you are threatened with demotion.

Challenging Work

Huge workload. Unrealistic time constraints. Little encouragement.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would hire people who care about more than their bonuses.

What I like about the company

Co workers were the best. Great people who were all struggling to do the job of 5 people. That is the only thing I loved. The people I worked with.

What I dislike about the company

The unrealistic mandatory goals. The lack of good team managers. The managers were rarely seen lending a hand with their team. They were always in the back offices. I worked retail all of my life & this company was by far the worst I ever worked for. I had several employees & 1 manager who absolutely agreed with this assessment. They throw employees & managers alike, to the wolves, with no training, no handbook on how to do what they expect. My manager would say 'This MUST be done in 30 minutes'. But declined to show me how it could be done. Saying, 'I already did my time in the trenches'. Also, when I dropped a glass vase at the register, because I was developing a very serious carpal tunnel problem, a manager blocked my exit, sayingI could not leave until the line of customers was gone. Even though I stated that the pain in my hands was making it hard to grasp items to ring up. The manager told me, 'Yea, my hands hurt too. But you cannot leave until all the customers have been rung up'. This is unacceptable behavior from management. I ended up having 3 surgeries for carpal tunnel syndrome.

Support from management

Most of ny teammates were great to work with and we could get a lot accomplished, but there was one or two bad seeds. That bad seed was the reason I left.

Teamwork

The management would pit employees against each other and not always take complaints seriously

Freedom to work independently

Most of my teamamtes needed monitoring to make sure they were doing their jobs and not goofing off

Internal Communication

Most communtication was good, but there were times when wires were crossed or expectations were not realistic

Gender Equality

Most of us were females and allowed to do everything and paid the same

Attitude towards older colleagues

They were good at finding places for every person they hired

Career Development

They loved using me to train other people to be my department management....wasn't the greatest feeling

Overall compensation for your work

Only made 8.03 after almost 3 years to work every department in the store

Office / Work Environment

Copporate controlled heating/cooling and it was either really hot or really cold

Environmental Friendliness

Fairly conscious about environment, but could use some help

Work-Life Balance

If they could I would be called in every chance they got and they were not well at being flexibke for emergencies

Job Security

Always threatened with termination for very few absences....anything iver 3 and you were at risk

Handicapped Accessibility

Bathrooms were handicap accessible, but work positions not so much

Workplace Safety

They took safety seriously

Challenging Work

I had one set department I was assigned to, but was used all over the store in multiple departments.

Inclusive / Diverse

Most of the time opinions were encouraged, but not really taken in for use

Suggestions for improvement

  • Do not make the person who has worked the department for a long time and the best person for the department manager job...train the new department manager. Take complaints about harrassment/ bullying seriously.

What I like about the company

Most if the people I worked with were amazing, and I was always busy. We would hold baby showers and birthday parties occasionally.

What I dislike about the company

The management team needed to manage harassment complaints better. They also needed to stop using employees without appropriate compensation.

What I like about the company

I have met great people their who are like family. We are very close and try to look out for one another and keep in touch with those who leave for other jobs or move out of state. We keep in touch. The people I work with are more family to me than my own family. I can truly say that I think why I have been at my job as long as I have is because of the relationships I have formed. I'm not saying it's perfect, but for the most part we all try to get along and help each other and when new employees come in we try and help them and welcome them in. If we lose somebody or something happens to one of us, it affects us all in some way because we are close. We just lost and employee and it was a total shock to us all. When you are use to seeing someone everyday and talking to them everyday, it's hard when they are not there anymore. It's just a strange feeling you never get over. It's unexplainable and it's hard to even put into words the pain you feel in your heart. I was close to the employee that died and I still can't believe it. Can't believe she's gone. I came home and cried because I thought about what she was going through at the time and we had conversations about on numerous occasions, and it's just hard to accept that life and can be harder on others than some, and though you even do everything in your power to do better and try to make things better, sometimes it doesn't work and life can hit you real hard in the face. I wished things could have worked out better for her. When she came to work and we would talk, I would try to help her and encourage her that everything would be alright, but it didn't turn out that way. Everybody that knew her at work was just in shock and they didn't know whether to cry or they just didn't know what to do. She was around her fifties and to me that is to young to die, but when life deals you blows that you don't understand and you don't know how to handle it, it can eat you up inside and take you away from this earth. Rip Sherry

What I dislike about the company

Not much, except I think the managers could be more understanding and communicate better to the employees.
