TJ MAXX experience report

  • Employee

TJ Maxx is probably typical of retail today. 1 person, doing the job of 5 people. No help. Little pay. Terrible mngmt.

Company Culture

A lot of people who spoke & understood little english.

Support from management

No one ever shows you how to complete projects.

Teamwork

Ha ha.

Internal Communication

90% negative communication

Attitude towards older colleagues

Saw them try to force a 60 year old to quit. After 13 years with the company.

Career Development

Very little in store promotions. Was told nobody ever got a. 50 cent raise.

Overall compensation for your work

They couldn't pay me enough to work there again.

Environmental Friendliness

Never saw or heard anything to do with the environment.

Work-Life Balance

Seemed not to care about life outside of work.

Company Image

I was very unhappy here.

Job Security

If you don't finish a project in the unreasonable time they set, you are threatened with demotion.

Challenging Work

Huge workload. Unrealistic time constraints. Little encouragement.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would hire people who care about more than their bonuses.

What I like about the company

Co workers were the best. Great people who were all struggling to do the job of 5 people. That is the only thing I loved. The people I worked with.

What I dislike about the company

The unrealistic mandatory goals. The lack of good team managers. The managers were rarely seen lending a hand with their team. They were always in the back offices. I worked retail all of my life & this company was by far the worst I ever worked for. I had several employees & 1 manager who absolutely agreed with this assessment. They throw employees & managers alike, to the wolves, with no training, no handbook on how to do what they expect. My manager would say 'This MUST be done in 30 minutes'. But declined to show me how it could be done. Saying, 'I already did my time in the trenches'. Also, when I dropped a glass vase at the register, because I was developing a very serious carpal tunnel problem, a manager blocked my exit, sayingI could not leave until the line of customers was gone. Even though I stated that the pain in my hands was making it hard to grasp items to ring up. The manager told me, 'Yea, my hands hurt too. But you cannot leave until all the customers have been rung up'. This is unacceptable behavior from management. I ended up having 3 surgeries for carpal tunnel syndrome.
