God point to start.
HR constantly spoke about having a strong culture but during actions almost all departments showed no culture to each other or to other departments. A very "me first" attitude across the company as well as "take no responsibility" approach.
If you talk to one VP, the story is different then another. When you begin work every week, the strategy has changed. Constantly actions were taken that were opposite of what was communicated by executives.
At the corporate level, getting other departments to setup and do their fair share was like pulling teeth.
When trying to work with plants, many were obstinate to providing resources, support, and feedback when it came to implementing new ideas or plans.
With so many changes, one leader would tell you to work on something while another is telling you to do something entirely different.
Communication was something that the executives knew nothing about. If and when there was a meeting by the executives, it was more of a sales pitch on why you should work at TMK rather than strong plans where everyone would be putting in their fair share of work to accomplish.
There is a lack of women and minorities in director level and up.
Majority of the senior folks have been left go due to layoffs.
HR has been working on programs to provide advancement in the workplace but all it is just filling out forms which they will evaluate but no further training, education, etc is provided to expand skills.
In the industry, TMK pays far below their competitors. TMK talks about bonuses, profit sharing, etc but none of those come to fruition.
TMK has also this past year stopped matching 401k contribution, froze pay raises so in essence you have had pay reductions.
Due to the downturn in the market, the work environment is very bad as there are colleagues who are being let go left and right, company is losing money every day of the year, and shuttering of plants and offices.
Recycling programs are outwardly touted but then discarding of recycled material with regular trash is a common practice.
With the constant changing of work plans, you end up working more hours whether it be at the office or at home without anything to show for it.
In the beginning, I was very proud to work for TMK however over time, they got rid of many executives who grew the company and lost vision on who IPSCO was.
Went from being IPSCO to being TMK.
With today's oil market, nothing is secure for TMK. They have shut down plants, froze pay, had furloughs, no 401k matching, etc.
They comply with local and federal regulations when it comes to ADA.
TMK has done well to bring OSHA recordables down.
Work is challenging but from from getting things done but more from dealing with others and the negative environment.
Company values diversity from the working staff, however at the executive level and up, it is mainly controlled by parent company.
TMK in late 2000's to early 2010's was a wonderful company to work for. There was a lot of passion and commitment to employees to also the values the company had.
Overtime as they relocated to Houston from Chicago, they let go many of the executives who created TMK IPSCO and replaced them with executives who do not embody the values that were IPSCO. New executives have taken this company from a place you were happy to go to work to a place where you were looking the clock to go leave.
