Everyone knows and respects one another here. And we are always willing to help each other get the work done.
Freedom to work independently
Being a small company with a lot of work, employees are given multiple opportunities to spread their wings and run with a project.
Emails are sent out throughout the year about project wins and how they affect us. Bonuses also speak loudly to how the company is doing. More emails throughout the year would be nice though.
Firm is woman owned.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Employees are treated fairly although, older employees are not expected to learn new technology/software like the younger employees, which puts added stress on the younger employees.
We have a ton of work and when deadlines approach, some overtime is generally needed. Employees are expected to step up instead of hiring additional workers.
We just won our largest project ever which is huge for us. It is also a huge project for the City of Chicago which will be highly scrutinized in the public eye.
I was given a substantial raise when I moved and bought a house so that they could keep me on staff.
Projects are always new and different with a variety of design issues that need to be solved along the way.

Suggestions for improvement
- Instead of having separate sick and vacation time, I would put everything under PTO. I never ever come close to using all of my sick time which just results in me taking extra 'fake' sick days so that I do not lose those hours.
What I like about the company
Everyone knows each other at our company and everyone are friends with each other, hanging out with each other after work, helping everyone meet deadlines, etc. I have watched the company grow throughout the years I have been here in part to my contributions. It is great to work somewhere in which your coworkers are like family and your work has immediate impacts in the company and community.
What I dislike about the company
With the workload that we have had and that we currently have, it would be nice to hire additional people so that employees are not overworked. It would also be nice to hire these people before the projects hit so that we do not have to take time away from our work to help train and bring the new people up to speed in the midst of a deadline.
