Since more and more hospitals are getting swallowed up by the health system. It's went down hill. The higher ups don't care. It's all about the bottom line.
Support from management
They do not stand behind the workers. They stand behind the higher ups but not the common worker.
In the dept I worked in I wasn't encouraged. Quite the opposite. The more tension between workers the better the supervisor liked it.
Freedom to work independently
The workload was not distributed evenly. Some people were sitting with nothing to do and others were working OT trying to get things caught up. Everyone knew how to do the work. People were just being singled out to fail.
There was very little communication. Only when you were doing something wrong, rarely for all the good things you did.
Attitude towards older colleagues
No older workers ever get hired. I turned 62 and I was being scrutinized for everything I did. After over 20 years in the dept. I was told I wasn't qualified to work in the dept anymore. I was the oldest in the dept.
Office / Work Environment
It was always too cold or too hot. There was mold in the ceiling tiles and the carpet. Sewage from the floor above seeped through the ceiling tiles and they fell onto our desks. They expected us to clean it up instead of maintenance.
They made all the right noises but not much action.
A majority of the time you were able to take time off when you wanted.
Really? After 26 year's I was told I wasn't needed anymore. There is no such thing as job security.
I was proud of the work I did.
