The equality requires significant improvements. It is dominated by East or South Asians e.g. Chinese, Indians, etc. that usually work in any conditions. This cannot make equality for the other international students/postdocs (for example implementing official expectation of working from 8 am to 9 or 10 pm).
Overall compensation for your work
The salary is a bit low for either students or postdocs living in the Bay area.
Office / Work Environment
The working condition requires significant improvement (flexible time instead of 8 am expectation, the work load, much better project organization by advisers, and better salaries that can cover better the living expanses).
The work-life balance requires significant improvement. Some laboratories implement 8 am to around midnight official working expectation, or working requests in all weekends (outside the student or postdoc contracts; hardworking is good but considering the student/postdoc organization).
The accessibility requires significant improvements for specific researches that the required research tools are complementary to each other on campus and in its national lab.
Suggestions for improvement
- Improve the time-flexibility, a much better organization for research tools required for international students/postdocs (specially addressing its national lab), improve salary for students/postdocs.
What I like about the company
Competence, excellent weather and location.
What I dislike about the company
equality, working conditions, no time-flexibility, lab tools organization (separated between campus and the national lab; the national lab requires several administration steps that can take significant time for the international students/postdocs).
