Suggestions for improvement

  • Give better benefits/pay to really push the company to be better than competitors and give back more to the workers than just the patients. They strive to be seen so highly of customers but if the staff was treated better, then I feel like the patients would be treated better as well. Provide easier ways to grow in personal development and in promotions

What I like about the company

They pay better than most places. It’s great for meeting new and diverse people whether for personal or networking means. There are opportunities to develop and grow if you’re willing to apply and look for the resources needed. I’ve met a lot of very good friends and coworkers here. Many are very passionate about what they do and what they want to achieve and those people make being here great.

What I dislike about the company

They do not offer promotions easily or give good raises. Hard to get recognition for hard workers in my opinion. Wish they offered more perks as other places do. It would be nice to be able to work remotely. Sometimes the culture and diversity can be challenging and catered to certain individuals rather than highlighting everyone.

Support from management

I have a good relationship with my managers and they are understanding with scheduling changes for school

Teamwork

As with all workplaces, some coworkers are hard to work with

Freedom to work independently

Little micromanaging

Internal Communication

Open line of communication through the chain of command and emails

Gender Equality

Most nurses are women

Attitude towards older colleagues

Nurses are part of the NNU , older nurses have more seniority and pay and get preferential treatment in terms of scheduling

Career Development

Currently 100% reimbursement for school for nurses pursuing a masters 75% for doctorate and for employees children who go to u of c schools

Overall compensation for your work

Highest paying hospital in Chicago for nurses to my knowledge

Office / Work Environment

Building has a modern design and technology , was built recently

Environmental Friendliness

There are recycling bins placed around the unit but as with all hospitals tends to be wasteful for infection control

Work-Life Balance

Work three days per week 12 hour shifts, weekends and holidays included

Company Image

Great organization to work for with grade a safety rating and good reputation

Handicapped Accessibility

All handicap accessible

Workplace Safety

All hospitals could use to increase their security

Challenging Work

Registered nurse with union set staffing ratios

Inclusive / Diverse

Supports opinions and has communities of nurses that can impact change

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would recommend additonal staffing to allow charge nurses to work without patients . It is a very stressful and demanding position. Also charge nurse should be a set position so you don’t have to switch back and Forth.

What I like about the company

I work with good people that work well as a team. My manager was previously a floor nurse and understands the challenges of being a staff nurse. School reimbursement takes 2-3 weeks and you are given a raise when you get your masters. There is a good mix of young and senior nurses that can provide insite and wisdom. I don’t feel the nurses eat their young on my floor but it depends what floor you work.

What I dislike about the company

The company can be nit picky about following guidelines and procedures like clock in and clock out times. In my experience working another union job prior to finishing school, this is sometimes the only way people can get disciplined.

Company Culture

Very diverse environment to work in

Support from management

Not always. In fact I sometimes feel like I know more than my own boss.

Teamwork

Most of the time, we work individualy but as we all know, there is no "I" in team.

Freedom to work independently

For the most part, everyone works on their own, we each have a way of doing things but we also know how to work as a team.

Internal Communication

As with most jobs, communication is key, while the University as a whole is a great at communicating certain information, your section or department isn't always as efficient.

Gender Equality

I believe that men are getting paid more than women

Attitude towards older colleagues

I think after a certain age, the company tries to get you to quit or retire because they can't keep up with the new technology.

Career Development

For someone like me, there aren't really many advancement opportunities

Overall compensation for your work

For the amount of work I do, and the benefits I receive, I think my compensation is fair.

Office / Work Environment

Work spaces are not functional

Environmental Friendliness

does little to no effort to encourage people to recycle

Work-Life Balance

Personal days are offered, and leaniancy is great.

Company Image

I've come a long way and proud to be an employee

Handicapped Accessibility

For a hospital, I don't believe that this facilty is very handicap accessible.

Workplace Safety

There is some safety training and testing done on a regular or annual basis

Challenging Work

Older systems currently in use provide a challenge in getting work completed in an efficient manner.

Inclusive / Diverse

It's very one sided if you ask me.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would like to have an incentive program that gives the employees of the month a bonus such as paid parking for a month, a cash bonus, or even some meal vouchers. I would also like to improve our accounting system and the way we present accounting information to our faculty.

What I like about the company

I have great benefits and flexible work hours. Salary is fair and employee events can be fun.

What I dislike about the company

Parking for employees is just horrible. You either have to pay a few hundred bucks to park close or park blocks or even miles away. Management isn't the greatest and when they ask for feedback from employees, nothing ever really changes. Also, the systems our out of date and work doesn't get completed as accurately as they should be.
