Working for the University of Chicago is great. It all depends on which department you work in.
Very diverse environment to work in
Support from management
Not always. In fact I sometimes feel like I know more than my own boss.
Most of the time, we work individualy but as we all know, there is no "I" in team.
Freedom to work independently
For the most part, everyone works on their own, we each have a way of doing things but we also know how to work as a team.
As with most jobs, communication is key, while the University as a whole is a great at communicating certain information, your section or department isn't always as efficient.
I believe that men are getting paid more than women
Attitude towards older colleagues
I think after a certain age, the company tries to get you to quit or retire because they can't keep up with the new technology.
For someone like me, there aren't really many advancement opportunities
Overall compensation for your work
For the amount of work I do, and the benefits I receive, I think my compensation is fair.
Office / Work Environment
Work spaces are not functional
does little to no effort to encourage people to recycle
Personal days are offered, and leaniancy is great.
I've come a long way and proud to be an employee
For a hospital, I don't believe that this facilty is very handicap accessible.
There is some safety training and testing done on a regular or annual basis
Older systems currently in use provide a challenge in getting work completed in an efficient manner.
Inclusive / Diverse
It's very one sided if you ask me.
Suggestions for improvement
- I would like to have an incentive program that gives the employees of the month a bonus such as paid parking for a month, a cash bonus, or even some meal vouchers. I would also like to improve our accounting system and the way we present accounting information to our faculty.
What I like about the company
I have great benefits and flexible work hours. Salary is fair and employee events can be fun.
What I dislike about the company
Parking for employees is just horrible. You either have to pay a few hundred bucks to park close or park blocks or even miles away. Management isn't the greatest and when they ask for feedback from employees, nothing ever really changes. Also, the systems our out of date and work doesn't get completed as accurately as they should be.
