I worked specifically in the salon, not on the floor and they are not interchangeable. I believed this to be more stable than a traditional salon . if I didn't have a client in my chair, I could help out on the floor with customers. But what actually happens is if you don't have a client, you've got 1-2 hours to find one ( as in, get one of the shopping customers to come get a service in the salon..) If you can't convince someone to come sit in your chair, your sent home. Most days, it wasn't worth the make up you were required to slap on your face, to go in for the 45 minutes of customer chasing before being sent home. This was really a bummer , because I actually liked working there. But I couldn't afford to stay.
Suggestions for improvement
- Let the hair stylist work on the floor while not busy in the salon. It's good for the customers and if the stylist is good with customers, the customer may come back looking for salon service. Half the customers never even knew there was a salon back there. Advertise the salon at the front of the store instead of in front of the salon.
