Suggestions for improvement

  • I think that the company should not only offer PTO, but also offer Sick time separately so employees do not have to use all their PTO and then not have the chance for a vacation. I also believe that the medical benefits should provide more for the employees since even with the highest premium choice, the out-of-pocket cost is still a lot to pay. The 401(k) should also include matching rather than just 5%.

What I like about the company

The company participates in events to help raise money/awareness of illnesses as well as hold events yearly for all employees to mingle and enjoy each others' company.

What I dislike about the company

Human resources is constantly rotating employees and does not seem to always be aware of the company information. Also, the management whom make the decisions on who to promote do not make decisions based on knowledge and skills, but rather social ability.

What I like about the company

I've been able to grow in my career and have worked with some amazing people.

What I dislike about the company

Micromanagement isn't necessary. We should be trusted to do our jobs. Ability to work remote, at least some of the time, would improve employee morale. Other employees are allowed remote days, but not program leadership, 114 which leads to disenchantment and disengagement.

Company Culture

Ultimate Medical Academy was the most draining, mentally exhausting, and flat out worst job I ever had. I was an employee at UMA for 4 years. I left on good terms amicably but, I must tell the truth. They will constantly shuffle you around and herd you like cattle in the guise of "Work Huddles" or what they like to call "Hard Hat Huddles". These huddles reminded me of a brainwashing "pep rally" similar to what you would see in Jonestown. People singing, chanting, dancing and clowning around, all the while praising UMA. Management forced workers to participate in these huddles whether you liked it or not. . You could be forced to do about 5 of these huddles a day.

Support from management

Very little support from middle to upper management. A lot of the middle management are clueless. Company directives change so rapidly, its hard to have clear communication and create a supportive environment. I have also seen a disturbing trend of people getting promoted or hired as managers and then being demoted and put back on the phones as regular reps. UMA is not a culture set up to grow from within. They play favorites, and when you are no longer willing to "Play the game" or "Sip the Kool-aid" you will find yourself on the outside looking in. Some of the people they have in management are un-qualified to hold any position let alone management.

Teamwork

Teamwork is a null in void concept in the Career Services and Admissions department at UMA. Maybe some teamwork can be seen in Financial aid, Learner Services ect. but in Career Services and Admissions, due to the fact everyone in the department is responsible to hit his or her own quota to stay employed, every one is truly out for self to survive.

Freedom to work independently

You will not have one second during the day to work independently. Management walks around the floor, looking over your shoulder every minute of the day. From the time you clock in, to the time you clock out. If you like to work independent, UMA is not the place for you whatsoever.

Internal Communication

Some of the worst communication I have ever seen in a workplace. Rules and Company Directives change by the hour. Quotas, and team budget goals to place students change frequently as well. You could be successfully hitting your quota to stay employed in good standing and then it could be moved higher to get more out of the employee and make it harder for you to succeed and stay employed. UMA adheres to a revolving door, high turn over environment. I personally have seen hundreds of people fired for not hitting monthly quotas. A lot of people just flat out quit or resign after about 30 days.

Gender Equality

Wow, I can say one good thing about UMA. They hire Men, Women, Straight, Gay and Transgendered equally across the board.

Attitude towards older colleagues

The average age of a person working at UMA is 22 to 28 yrs of age. There are a hand full of middle aged employees 33 to 45 yrs or older ( mostly in mid and upper management positions ) . I saw very few aged 55 or older persons working at UMA.

Career Development

I witnessed firsthand a disturbing trend of people getting promoted from within or hired as managers and then being demoted and put back on the phones as regular reps. UMA is not a culture set up to grow from within. UMA adheres to a high turn over policy.

Overall compensation for your work

UMA does pay well. back in 2013 I started at 19.23 per hr. and when I left I was making 22.50 per hr. . When I left, I took a 2 dollar pay cut. It was one of the best decisions I have made in my adult life.

Office / Work Environment

The work environment at UMA is the worst I have seen in my lifetime. Cubicles are extremely small. You are literally shoulder to shoulder. Music blaring in the background, people screaming and yelling all the while you are on the phone with a doctor's office or medical facility speaking to a decision maker trying to secure a job interview for a UMA graduate. I can count how many times doctors, receptionist, or whoever I was speaking to on the phone asked "WHAT IN THE HELL IS THAT IN THE BACKGROUND"??? or "ARE YOU TRYING TO SELL ME SOMETHING?, WHAT IS ALL THAT NOISE"??? extremely un-professional work environment.

Environmental Friendliness

UMA is very wasteful when it comes to Environmental friendliness. I cant count how many trees have been killed and wasted by UMA, everything is paper trail at this company. UMA is also unsanitary. Some of the break rooms do not have sinks to wash hands. No paper towels to wipe of hands just air blowers. People will pour coffee in trash cans, spilt coffee and soda on break room floors and in bathroom sinks. I will leave it at that.

Work-Life Balance

UMA is the absolute worst when it comes to work life balance. They have a point system instituted to where if your late by more than 5 min, or miss a day due to illness, car trouble, childcare ect. you will get points added to your file. If you hit a certain amount of points within a month, they put you on verbal, written and final warnings for termination. Keep in mind, UMA does not offer sick days like most reputable employers. Just paid time off or unpaid time off. They expect you to be there, in your seat, dialing for dollars. You will get two 15 min breaks and 1 hour for lunch. If you are late coming back from break or lunch, points are added to your file. UMA is a micro-management company period. They treat adults like children.

Company Image

a lot left to be desired. I would call around the entire United States talking to Doctors, Office Managers, and most of the feedback I received from past companies that worked with UMA and our graduates was negative.

Job Security

again, There is no job security whatsoever and that includes mid to upper management positions. no one's job is safe.

Handicapped Accessibility

UMA located by the stadium had tons of handicap parking and walking ramps to accommodate handicapped individuals.

Workplace Safety

UMA is one of the worst I have seen in workplace safety. Elevators are constantly breaking down. I was once trapped on the elevator for more than 45 min. I witnessed one time that the building had to be evacuated due to harmful fumes. The bathrooms flooded over numerous times during my 4 yr tenure. I can't count how many times ambulances and fire trucks were called out to the location.

Challenging Work

I'm going to give this 5 stars. It is extremely challenging to get un-qualified, under trained, Medical academy graduates hired at reputable medical facilities around the United States. If you like un-realistic challenges, UMA is the place for you.

Inclusive / Diverse

There is Diversity at UMA, don't know if I can totally co-sign the "Inclusive" part. There is one thing about UMA that is "Equal and "Inclusive" and that is, no one's job is safe. There is no job security whatsoever and that includes mid to upper management positions.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Re-vamp the entire structure of day to day operations.
