Application advice

Preferred application method

Selection process

You should hear back from one of our internal recruiters regarding your application within 1-2 weeks of applying. Every position has a different selection process/interview process, but you will likely go through a phone screen with the recruiter, then another phone interview with the manager or a coding test for technical positions. From there, you’ll come onsite to interview with the team, then you’d move forward to the offer stage.

Company Culture

Good culture from the CPO. But pockets of people who entertain the People First culture take it to an extreme with a lack of maturity, childish gossip, bullying & incompetence. Nepotism runs rampant. When these 2 classes of people mix, you end up with a terrible culture & workplace environment.

Support from management

Plenty of people speak negatively through the grapevine about the corporate culture.

Teamwork

Corporate IT is run poorly. Nepotism. Numbers driven. Mental sparring with political correctness. The development side of the business is the best part of the company. The true culture of the company is for development.

Freedom to work independently

WFH is great. List your tasks, meet plenty of people & assist in all ways possible.

Gender Equality

Cliques do not accept women engineers. Very divisive.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Hypocritical attitudes & gossip.

Career Development

Training money per year.

Overall compensation for your work

!SO MANY UNDERPAID EMPLOYEES! ("Peeps")

Office / Work Environment

Hypocritical attitudes & gossip.

Environmental Friendliness

Hypocritical attitudes & gossip.

Work-Life Balance

Neglect your family because you strive to do the right thing for the company & in your general work ethic. You will go unappreciated if your not part of the club, despite being a top performer.

Job Security

Hypocritical attitudes & gossip. How can you honestly be your best person with ingenuine quality of coworkers?

Challenging Work

Silos. People not very open to share what they know for fear of losing their job. I documented everything I know about our processes & formally presented them to reduce the amount of learning curve for challenging work that the team will come across. Job security, for the group of unqualified employees. Nepotism & buddy system.

Inclusive / Diverse

Diverse hirings. Be wary of people who can't clearly tell you how the work they are responsible for is to be done.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Hire qualified people. Destroy nepotism. Family & business do not mix.

What I like about the company

Benefits. Food trucks. Company sponsored vacation. Viv Maza, her energy, her passion.

What I dislike about the company

Nepotism. Buddy system. Hiring & keeping unqualified candidates.

Company Culture

The motto is "People First!" and Ultimate definitely lives up to that motto. The only draw back is that sometimes putting someone first, means putting others experiences not as forefront.

Support from management

My Management team pushes me to the limits of my abilities and keeps me excited to come to work every day.

Teamwork

With the team spread out, there are times where it feels that not everyone is pulling their own weight.

Freedom to work independently

A lot of the work I do is project based, so independence is a strong component of it.

Internal Communication

We are always kept up to date on what's happening through email, UltiHome, and team meetings.

Gender Equality

If you look through out the company, you see a pretty even split between men and women. Even in the c-suite.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Ultimate takes care of you through out your tenure and at the point where you retire.

Career Development

I have taken advantage of multiple training and career development programs that are available here. Tuition Reimbursement is also a bit plus.

Overall compensation for your work

I would say that the pay is on the lower side of the average scale for the work that I do.

Office / Work Environment

The open concept helps when collaborating with others around you. However, it also provides multiple opportunities to get side tracked.

Environmental Friendliness

I love coming to work and working with the people that I work with.

Work-Life Balance

Any time that I have run into an issue with needing to have time off or to work from home, I have always been given that opportunity. Especially with unlimited paid time off, it takes the fear about running out of time in cases of emergency.

Company Image

Anyone who knows that I work for Ultimate always wants me to find them a job here. I don't blame them, it is a great place to work.

Job Security

Never have I had any manager threaten my job, nor do I feel that I will not be needed. On the contrary, I have been introduced to multiple teams to assist with projects to broaden my apeal.

Handicapped Accessibility

From Knee Scooter, walker, crutches, and cane, the office is very easy to navigate.

Workplace Safety

we have between 2 and 3 locked doors that require a badge to enter. 3rd requires a 4 digit pin and badge.

Challenging Work

I have been pushed just a little outside of my comfort zone a couple of times. This has only increased my abilities and grow.

Inclusive / Diverse

I cannot think of a group that is not represented in the company. We pride ourselves on inclusion.

Suggestions for improvement

  • It would be nice to have a clearer promotion path for all departments. Some have more difficulty promoting than others. Especially when not customer facing.

What I like about the company

I feel like a person, not just a number. The amount of generosity around the entire company is astounding.

What I dislike about the company

I honestly can't think of anything negative.

Teamwork

Individual departments work well together - but there is a disconnect between development and support. There is a knowledge gap between both that if improved would contributes to a stronger functionality in the product. A new team talented and focused of both that can help reduce this gap would be ideal.

Career Development

The company is growing and many opportunities become available. However, it seems that quite a few employees advance quickly or are placed in leadership roles without having the same level of knowledge and experience as other colleagues because of what appears to be at times too much favoritism and politics. I have witnessed in several departments a common sentiment among some more tenured and knowledgeable employees that they are overlooked because of these reasons. It appears to cause the company lose talent all together or loose some drive and ambition from their employees. Work can be rightfully challenging, and a lack of a stronger promotional practices can prematurely allow in some cases employees to remove themselves from customer-facing/system work without obtaining stronger product knowledge and experience first.

Overall compensation for your work

The benefits are amazing and overall pay for the industry is good - but there is a discrepancy between newer employees and tenured employees that disrupts morale in many areas of the company. This is especially true in Support where newer employees start on a more updated and competitive pay scale than those that have a longer tenure in the company. It is very discouraging to know that those who are very new to the organization receive the same or similar compensation as someone who has years of experience and knowledge. The company would benefit greatly by creating a fair Compensation Model that compares current industry pay and adjusting salaries based on how many years an employee has been with the company (since merit increases are yearly if one is at least meeting productivity goals) versus what everyone in the same role and department earns- but adjusting for years worked. This would seem to reduce negative factors such as employees changing roles too quickly- which can help grow experience, knowledge transfers/training, and overall effectiveness in teams- while boosting motivation and morale.

Work-Life Balance

Some departments have a tougher time adapting a work-life balance because of the nature of their work. But there is also a gap in the use of effective processes, training, product releases, and in some areas head count- that negatively affects work-life balance when these are areas that can be improved.

Suggestions for improvement

  • As mentioned in detail from the categories above- cross departmental collaboration, compensation scales, promotional practices and some work-life balance can be improved. Additionally, adapting a single mid-year product release will greatly improve customer satisfaction and internal escalations because it would help address issues that arise outside of the busy year end time-frame. With that being said, expanding the Development team that reviews product releases would be extremely proactive.

What I like about the company

The company culture, benefits and perks are amazing - as well as the feeling that you are part of family

What I dislike about the company

Would be great if there was more transparency between employee compensation, as some progressive companies are adapting this practice to help increase morale. Also, some training materials lack in-depth review, content organization, and thoroughness.
