  • Listen to the people that work for you,they have the most knowledge at hand they are not idiots.Try to turn the F$%K the company around very unproductive on the floor.Not every worker is out to get back at the company for past issues.Hired supervisors need more people skills.Know your work force and have feeling for what they need.The employees know it's a business but don't make it all about the money.

What I like about the company

Health insurance during my employ good.I was able to save sick time hours for any future serious issues.Most immediate employees worked well with and a degree of team work always present.

What I dislike about the company

Constantly micro managed.Immediate supervisors lacking knowledge of aircraft fleet types (hired off the street not from within most of the time).People that should be supervisors want nothing to do with it.A F%&K the company mentality from the floor attitude.

Company culture

I preferred the culture at the airport better than in the corporate office. I think the airport appreciates the employees more.

Support from Management

The expectations are high and change with the need of the company. However, I knew what was expected of me while working at the airport.

Teamwork

The team at the airport worked well together, from the highest position to the lowest position.

Level of Autonomy

I liked the fact that when I was given an assignment, it was expected that I would complete it. I do not like being watched while I work.

Communication

Communication at the airport was good. Things can change quickly, and solid communication is essential.

Gender Equality

I had not noticed any difference in treatment of others.

I had not noticed any difference in treatment of others.

They offered some assistance, but it may be an area where they could improve

Overall Compensation for your work

The managers at the airport realized that I was underpaid and took measures to try to put my salary close to where it should have been.

Office/Work Environment

Although supervisors at the airport are normally given a cubical to work in, I was given an office. I prefer the office because I like it quiet when I am concentrating on the budget.

Eco-consciousness

The airport had separate trash cans for regular garbage and recyclables. There are also mandatory recycling of maintenance items, which was followed.

Work-Life Balance

This is an area which I cannot overstate how wonderful United Airlines was to me. My children were young when my husband became ill. He was in and out of the hospital many times. I was told that I could file for FMLA, but it would not matter; I would get whatever I needed without it. Although several managers came and went, all allowed me the flexibility that I needed to take care of my family and to succeed at my job. As long as I worked at least 40 hours per week, completed my tasks, met deadlines, and attended meetings, the airport managers were happy. It did not matter that I would switch up my schedule when I needed.

Company Image

I took pride in working there. I would like to go back at some point.

Job security

Job security was always a concern. The company looked for ways to increase efficiency and reduce headcount. All corporations have a fiscal responsibility to their shareholders.

Handicap Accessibility

I do not know what the handicap accessibility was like.

Workplace Safety

Airports are among the most dangerous places to work. Safety was always heavily emphasized. If there was an extended period without an incident, a celebration/recognition event would occur.

Challenging Work

I was responsible for overseeing the non-personnel budget for Airport Operations at O'Hare. I was kept very busy , and there was a lot to learn.

Inclusive/Diverse

I had not noticed any difference in treatment of others.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Although employee recognition was given both at the corporate offices and at the airport, the airport did a better job of it. It would be nice to see the employees in the corporate office getting more recognition. I do not mean that the recognition should be financial; "thank you" does a lot for morale.

What I like about the company

I most liked that I was given the flexibility I needed when I most needed it. The insurance benefits were excellent. My husband's medical bills were outrageous, but the most we paid was the out-of-pocket maximum. I also liked the flying benefits and other travel discounts. My family and I liked to travel.

What I dislike about the company

I believe the workload at the corporate office was too much, which resulted in unattainable expectations.

What I dislike about the company

Management pays little attention to employee input at a variety of levels. Always thinks it knows how to "run the business" better than those who actually "do" it.

Workers hate each other here. They aim to break each other down instead of help.
One manager put her hands on me and threatened me. I had witnesses and report incident to Corp office and they did nothing because the manager was with the company for 15 plus years so they favor her. Which is wrong

Inclusive/Diverse

Manager told on employee for reading the Bible on her break and got her fired. She was pregnant and later became homeless from the hate from her former manager

  • To learn to work together as a team. To treat temps the same as United employees

Suggestions for improvement

  • Management needs to be held accountable and those creating volatile work environments need to be dismissed.

What I like about the company

Cannot think of one positive thing to say about the airline after the merger.

What I dislike about the company

The culture Continental Airlines cultivated did not carry over in the merger and it was no longer a great place to work.

  • Treat employees as co-equals instead of profit wasters. Treat customers as if they are who they actually are, everything.

What I like about the company

Post-merger with Continental Airlines, I liked the...um....(insert something good to say here)

What I dislike about the company

Post-merger with Continental, using their computer system compared to pre-merger United's computer was like stepping back in time. It took a long while to catch up and we were still not there as of when I left.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Stop wasting tons of money on equipment and tools that are never fully implemented or sometimes never even attempted to implement. And go back to providing quality training for the employees who are still left.

What I like about the company

The Flexible hours are good.

What I dislike about the company

Groups are too compartmentalized. No good workflow communication. Leadership is looking for more and more outsourcing and quality of work diminishes as they do. Morale which has never been good is starting to dip again just when it showed signs of starting to improve.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Learn which positions can be trained/promoted from within and those that cannot be. Upper executive management should get to know lower level employees.

What I like about the company

Benefits are awesome and very nice severance package.

What I dislike about the company

Good ole boy culture. Failing at recognizing which I.T. positions can be learned on the job and which ones cannot.

Company culture

Much improved under new CEO and filtering down through management levels.

Support from Management

If you try and don's deliberately screw up, they will support you very well.

Level of Autonomy

As a pilot, and especially as a Captain, you need to make command decisions on the spot. As long as you use good judgement you will be supported. We are respected as professionals, and expected to behave that way.

Company Image

I am now. There were years with other CEO's where it was not fun, but that has improved greatly.

Safety is number one in all aspects of this job.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Pay at least 50% on unused sick leave at retirement.

What I like about the company

Great Potential to advance, supportive management, family atmosphere with other employee groups.

What I dislike about the company

No credit for unused sick leave at retirement. I gave back 780 hours, or a full years pay, just because I was too honest to abuse it.
