- Army & Air Force Exchange Service07.Oct 2018
Military spouse or military member jobs available on military bases and even remote locations.
Very diverse and looks out for the military family members.
This would determine what military base you were at, as in my tenure I have seen a lot of management not team players.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Most of the time I would see supervisors or managers not wanting to hire anyone over 50 years old. The would just assume an older employee would not be an asset to their facility, when in fact, that person would be the best qualified! Eiiu
Overall compensation for your work
After 20 years I went out on disability, then after 12 years of doctors telling and writing I was total disabled, the headquarters people determined I could work, even though I still remain disabled, in 2018, 18 years after my retirement disability. I get nothing for the 20 years service I out in for this company, not a dime. As it was, I was paid only $12.10, after 20 years of service.
They would work Intermittent employees part time and full time hours, without the employees getting any benefits after a period of time!
This would depend where you were working, as I know for a fack the building I worked at, in Germany was not handicap accessible. You had to climb stairs, no ramps or elevators located in building that was public acess, even was General Managers's office.
Suggestions for improvement
- I have no knowledge how things go now, but if I do go in to shop, it is still hard to find an employee or manager to help. I was buying a floor model, computer, as it was the last one they had as it was being factory reset. When I left my name and phone number with the employee the day I purchased it, waited for a phone call, the next day, as I was told I would be called, but did not get called or even a text to come in and pick it up. On the 3rd day after I had left it, I went back in to inquire about it, and it took awhile for the employee to even find my computer in the warehouse. I asked if a discount was possible, was told that the Exchange paid X-amount, which I was told was only a $9.00 profit for the Exchange, so no discount, even though it had been out as a display model and they were no longer carrying this model.
What I like about the company
It gave me the chance to maintain a career when my husband was active military and moving all over the world. I was reinstateable, so was always guareented a position whereever we moved. They had an upward mobility program, which allowed employees to work their way up to management, and they paid for it on company time. Majority of the time I was reinstated back in administration, which I was really good at.
What I dislike about the company
Managers/Supervisors, most of the time, would not tell all their employees about the Upward Mobility Program. If they did, the manager or supervisor did not want to release the employee on company time to do training, as they wanted their bottom line met.
