Most work days included 10-hour shifts for 5 days, although as the years passed, after a 50-hour week, there was always wrangling about what they were willing to pay us for. They wanted to benefit from our working more than 50 hours, but resented paying for it. The employees initially had great natural camaraderie--people from all walks of life, ages and corners of the country--and we were supported and respected by our immediate supervisors, but as the corporate leadership changed between 2008 and 2013, so did the quality of supervision and caliber of upper management character. What resulted was leaders cutting out many dedicated career supervisors and directors, travelers and other quality people in favor of hiring their own family members/friends and putting into place more locals--who were inexperienced, often unprofessional and unreliable. Gossip and backstabbing set in, creating an often impossible work environment as some stepped on other employees in order to catapult themselves to greater positions of title. Our "customers" suffered as a result, and anyone who had already provided years of dedicated service was cut from the work force to save a buck and/or bring in buddies of the leadership team.
Suggestions for improvement
- Return to the original upper management team, treat employees with respect and common sense, remove the atmosphere of backstabbing and gossip that only benefits the company insiders.
