Company Culture

Employees are resources to be exploited.

Support from management

There is no leadership.

Teamwork

Employees just focus on doing there job so they can leave.

Freedom to work independently

Micromanagement seems to be embraced to a ridiculous level.

Internal Communication

There is no communication whatsoever in any aspect.

Gender Equality

I have witnessed a manager harass a female co-worker and receive no discipline.

Attitude towards older colleagues

As a union facility, seniority should be considered, but it is not.

Career Development

No advancement.

Overall compensation for your work

Pay is good, though for the amount of stress it is lacking.

Office / Work Environment

Work environment is as unsuitable as you could imagine. It's very dirty, and the lighting is poor at best.

Environmental Friendliness

No, there are acid and hydraulic oil leaks everywhere.

Work-Life Balance

The company takes no consideration into the fact that you may want to have a life outside of here, they view you as a resource to be exploited.

Company Image

Company views itself as fantastic, yet the structure of its building is falling apart.

Job Security

Unless they close the place due to lack of maintenance you'll most likely have a job.

Handicapped Accessibility

No.

Workplace Safety

Safety is only a concern when it does not slow down or stop production.

Challenging Work

Work is very boring, the only challenge is trying to operate broken equipment that never gets fixed.

Inclusive / Diverse

Diverse ideas and opinions are not supported.

Company Culture

The company continues to foster a very poor attitude towards employees. The company's historical legacy of being anti-Union is prevelant as is it's oppressive management style of employees

Support from management

No communication, poor planning, first line supervisor's hands are tied by upper level management.

Teamwork

No continuity between departments. The business model is designed that each department only cares about it's own results, not for how decisions or quality impact other departments

Freedom to work independently

Read my comments on teamwork... The same applies for autonomy

Internal Communication

There is no communication. Critical information is rarely disseminated.

Career Development

Retirees are forgotten employee numbers. Ask any employee if they believe that retirees are of any concern to the company and I'm sure you'd get a NO for your answer. There is no training or career development that is designed to make you better trained for your job. The existing programs are nothing but smoke & mirror programs designed to make it appear that the company has an adequate program

Overall compensation for your work

Pay and benefits used to be outstanding. Pay is average at best anymore. There will be no pay raises for at least the next 3 years.

Office / Work Environment

Working conditions are poor. Noise, dangerous work areas, safety that only matters as long as it doesn't impede production quotas.

Environmental Friendliness

The company is environmentally responsible ONLY because it is required by federal regulations.

Work-Life Balance

The company could care less about your personal life. Work schedules are never consistent and are only posted 3 days before the next work week. The company has control over when you can take your vacation, how many days you can use

Company Image

The company still lives in the era when Carnegie & Frick ran the largest, wealthiest corporation in the world. This is the main reason the company is in the dire condition it's in. They're controlling, dictating, oppressive practices and their attitude that they're the "biggest and best" is laughable at best. How does the once largest and wealthiest company in the world end up where it currently is except for poor management and a failure to plan for the future ?

Job Security

There is none

Workplace Safety

Safety is barely adequate. If it interfere's with production or costs too much it's not important

Challenging Work

The work is always challenging...but not for the right reasons. The challenges are trying to operate outdated equipment, trying to keep equipment running when there's no preventive maintenance program, few to no spare parts, lack of personal protective gear. All of this while expecting employees to produce a quality product

Inclusive / Diverse

The company is diverse in hiring. Equal opportunity is practiced, even to the degree that they hire untrained, unqualified family members of employees over the hiring of trained, qualified applicants with no "connections" within the company.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Step into the 21st century. Embrace and empower your employees. The company needs to upgrade and update equipment, address safety issues, rewrite your business model

What I like about the company

I can make good money but only if I work a ridiculous amount of overtime. Health/dental/vision benefits are good but are under constant attack by the company.

What I dislike about the company

The working conditions, oppressive attitude of upper management, very uncertain job security
