UHG culture as I knew it didn't extend to this particular branch of the company, from senior leadership down to the lowest level. It was terrible.
Support from management
Senior leadership frequently undermined middle managers
Generally but this was more who we were as leaders than what we were encouraged to do
Freedom to work independently
Senior leadership did not trust middle management and the associates knew it
Communication was up and down
Women had a number of leadership roles
Attitude towards older colleagues
Mix of older and younger leaders
They tout the many opportunities but it is difficult to transition to a new role
Overall compensation for your work
Leadership compensation was uneven, not based on experience or credentials
Office / Work Environment
Cubicles were small. Building had mold issues
Was able to take off time and work from home as needed, although this business unit did not have telecommute option
90% of our business unit was let go with no notice
Very challenging requiring many extended days
Inclusive / Diverse
Suffered from fear of tyrannical leaders and groupthink
Suggestions for improvement
- Trust managers who are closer to the actual work and associates.
What I like about the company
Tremendous, talented co-workers. Opportunity to make a difference in healthcare of Americans and abroad.
What I dislike about the company
Do better job of developing employees to move to new roles after reasonable time in job. Provide better compensation and severance.
