Support from management
Management is a huge problem. They do not work with frontline staff. They sit in there offices or meetings to discuss what needs to change rather than come out and do the actual work on the floor to know first hand what really goes on with patients. They are reactive and dont listen to staff about safety issues. Management has created a culture of fear.
The team you will work with directly is great.
Freedom to work independently
Management micromanages staff and it has really frustrated the nursing staff.
Management is not transparent. They plan, do, act without talking to frontline staff.
Overall compensation for your work
The pay is competitive.
Poor building remodel for a psychiatric hospital.
Its hard work. 12 hour shifts. It can take a toll on staff.
With the recent investigations Unity has not had a great public image.
There is a high turnover with RNs and they seem to always be short handed.
The design of the units and emergency department are of poor design. Safety of staff and patients has been a huge problem. So much so that Unity has been investigated.
This work is incredibly challenging. You are working with patients who are having a serious psychiatric emergency. You're working with a top down agency.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of several middle managers. Management needs to be more transparent.
What I like about the company
The pay is decent.
What I dislike about the company
We work for a large hospital system but we have terrible insurance.
The cafeteria has had a limited menu for 2 years and its not changed. They really need an update.
