Suggestions for improvement
- The morale definitely needs improving; catch people when they’re doing a good job not just when they’re doing something wrong. Ensure communication is clear and concise allowing all employees to be on the same page versus finding out after the fact or not at all. The other change I would like to see is a flexible work schedule; in the end if employees are happy they’re more productive in my experience.
What I like about the company
We are the only level 1 Trauma hospital in Las Vegas. Our Trauma unit has saved many lives. Also, we have the only burn unit in the area and they do a tremendous jobcaring for that patient population. We have competitive wages and a great benefits package. UMC is a company that encourages career and personal growth. We also have hospital based Ambulatory Cares that are a great service to our community. We are the County hospital so we do our best to service our community needs regardless of ability to pay. I have been with the company for 19yrs and plan on retiring from this job. The majority of employees have been with the company 10+ years.
What I dislike about the company
The biggest challenge, like with most large organizations is communication/dissemination of information. Would love to see an increase in employee morale, it can be low at times. It’s important to catch employees doing things right And that’s not always done consistently. Working for the government has challenges with the amount of political activity that takes place from the employees to the CSuite.
