I find it interesting as an adjunct that UC really doesn't want faculty to teach to reality, just to text books. When I teach to "the real world" and use "real world language" I get shunned and replaced. I really pity the student who wants to work in their field and realizes that it isn't all roses. Reality can be harsh and so can one's customers. Seems like Berkeley is interested in building buildings rather than building real life workers.
Suggestions for improvement
- Reach out to the adjunct faculty and see if any want to work full time toward tenure. Negotiate the salary and stop using adjunct because we're cheaper.
