What I like

I liked working with the U of M system because our hospital was one of a larger system. I liked the people I worked with and the types of patients we cared for.

What I dislike

I would've liked to have been more involved in quality improvement efforts. That seemed limited to upper management.

Suggestions for improvement

It would've been great to have been a Magnet facility. that would've supported and fostered shared governance not just for nursing but for all disciplines.

I worked for this company many years ago when I first graduated college

Former EmployeeWorked at University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

What I like

This was my first position and I LOVED working with my peers on my unit. We were close and got together outside of work routinely as well. We took great care of our patients and truly worked as a team.

What I dislike

I left because my position was eliminated and the nurses went on strike in 1984. I think they could've enhanced nursing management prior to that time however, and education.

Suggestions for improvement

I thought highly of my manager, but it was only her and another gal that provided the leadership for the unit. There were also no restrictions on the number of patients a nurse could have and that did not work well for me.

Benefits are better than private sector, pay is much worse. Red tape is stifling and can be a deterrent.
