Suggestions for improvement
- I have only been going to the University of Utah for two months but already I have negative things to say. There are not many school activities and when there are everyone shows up drunk. On a Friday or Saturday night it is very hard to find fun that does not involve drinking. Because it is a big commuter school people come here to learn and not socialize. People do not smile at you when you walk by or hold the door for you. It is a very unfriendly place. I do have only good things to say about the academics. They are unmatched and even though the classes are very large, the professors do care about you and will get to know you. There are more opportunities here than at smaller colleges and being close to downtown Salt Lake is very exciting. The mountains are gorgeous and the buildings are nice.
What I like about the company
I love the overall feeling of acceptance at the university. Everyday I make new friends and acquaintances. I love the overarching friendly feeling and the across campus transportation. Everyone can easily find their own niche and the advisors are incredibly helpful in helping each student get what they need to put if their education. There are tons of student resources available to enhance student success, and there is always something to do. If there was one thing I would change it would be that tuition wasn't so expensive.
What I dislike about the company
The teachers here are great. The campus is quiet and closed off from the city. Aside from having a good selection of dorms on campus, financial aid is the worst.Financial aid does not seem to have a grip on any other loan system other than their own.Within my first DAY of coming here they slapped me with a $5000 bill, saying I have not paid it.This came as a shock, as my loans were confirmed by the school months prior saying they received it.I visited the checking office, in which a man told me to call "Brenda" and to keep calling her until she picks up. AKA, I was going to have to call this women everyday at 7:30 AM to see if she can process my check from my state loans for me, as it was sitting in her drawer, and she was the only one who could touch it. The school is great at first glance, but the financial aid office is one of the worst I have ever seen. If you think you are going to go here, make sure that you have extra money kicking around, cause you're going to need it.
