Suggestions for improvement
- The committee system of interviewing and hiring is time consuming and ultimately false, as dept. heads know how to work the system and hire who they want regardless. Things only appear to be fair and equal. I've definitely seen sexual harassment and sexism, as in 'I'm hiring some testosterone." Very little feeling of support for those on the ground level.
What I like about the company
I've met some fantastic smart supportive people, and I've learned a lot. It's the first time in my life that I've worked with overwhelmingly educated people, and I enjoy the exchanges of ideas. Sick and family leave is generous, and I've had to use it taking care of my mother. They truly want you to stay home when you are ill, and don't punish you for it AND are supportive when family duties call.
What I dislike about the company
Management can restrict employees getting better or other opportunities in other departments. Upper level execs/department heads seem to have no limit on what they spend, yet I worked here 4 years before getting a raise, and I still make less than what the fast food people call a "living wage." Administrative people are universally thought of as unimportant and interchangeable by those who can't work the copy machine without us.
