One simple thing to say. Watch your back when work here. There is always people out to get you.
Support from management
There is a clear lack of leadership from the very top of the Agency all the down. Leadership does not support it's employees. They have their favorites and everyone else doesn't matter. You can ask anyone that is not in a leadership role here.
Very little team work. The lower levels support more team work but work is handed out to specific people only.
Freedom to work independently
Lower lever supervisors allow for autonomy. Higher level leadership is heavy on micro management.
Communications here one way, from the top down. Almost always there is no two way communication.
Definitely there are some things that need to be fixed here. Too much to list.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There is a definite toward some personnel in the Agency. Some personnel have been ask point blank when they were retiring. Just because leadership did not like them.
There is none if you have a civilian working here.
Overall compensation for your work
This is the only plus working here. Pay is good and benefits are good. If you want to waste you life away and not succeed and have an opportunity to advance, then this is the place for you. You will loose all your skills when working there. No change of training!!!!
Office / Work Environment
Work conditions here a near bottom. When you have to constantly watch your back it promotes poor work.
This agency is extremely PC. To the extent that it has become detrimental to the Agency.
No issue here. When most people leave work (and you physically clock out) you want to leave all work behind you.
Image is at an all time low!
Job security is excellent if you do as your told and nothing more. Basically be an average employee. Going above and beyond is not recognized here. It just sets you up for future failure.
There are some safety concerns that need to be addressed just like at other Agencies.
Most if not all work is not very challenging. You are not pushed to your limits here. They do not ask for 110 percent. There are senior level managers that sit around getting paid 150K - 160K playing solitaire for most of the day. This is the honest truth.
Inclusive / Diverse
They definitely try not to include everyone in any process.
Suggestions for improvement
- The Capitol Police Board needs to clean house from the Chief, Asst. Chief, CAO, CIO, and most Deputy Chiefs. This Agency is at rock bottom and need new leadership that knows how to lead and treat people.
What I like about the company
Good pay and benefits and some of the employees.
What I dislike about the company
The lack of leadership from the Head of the Agency of down. Certain supervisors are out to get employees that they don't like.
