Management trusts no one to do the right thing and has a my way or else attitude.
Support from management
Leadership is more interested in finding fault than understanding that mistakes are opportunities for improvement.
Everyone who is part of the senior management clique is protected; otherwise, you're on your own.
Freedom to work independently
Get your work done correctly and on time that way management can make sure they tell you that they have more for you to do while the employee next to you just sits around using their cell phone and taking unauthorized breaks.
Employees are rarely told of company successes, but are ALWAYS told about the failures.
See previous comments to get an idea about this topic. Equality at this company is a joke.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Longevity at this company only means that people are either too lazy to look for other work or cannot find work that pays as little as this place does. Turnover here is business as usual.
There is little to no advancement at this company and certainly no merit pay raises. 3% annually is the norm.
Overall compensation for your work
Wages and salaries are far below the local average. The health care is too expensive, and management is simply concerned with putting more money in their own pockets. The owner routinely indicates that the employees are always responsible when something is wrong, but rarely congratulates on a job well done. Wages above $20/hour at this place are rare.
Office / Work Environment
110 degree summer temps inside the factory are not uncommon.
The US Navy is this company's primary customer. The company does not understand diversification.
End of the month is always a frantic scramble to ship products regardless of quality concerns. Company policies do not support a liberal vacation schedule and affordable health care.
Management talks about what a great service they provide for our military, but it doesn't flow down to the workers. Most are just here for the 4-day work week.
The company's product line is stove-piped and tied directly to the US Navy shipbuilding and repair budgets. No diversification at all.
Individuals working in wire baskets 20 feet in the air supported by fork lift are common. No harnesses. Exposure to chemicals and production by products is common. Electrical lines and components in standing water and excessive decibels inside due to compressors and other manufacturing processes daily.
There is nothing challenging about the products built here. The military provides all of the designs, and they are decades old that should have been redesigned years ago.
Inclusive / Diverse
The company only supports diversity because they can hire cheap labor who can be replaced as needed.
Suggestions for improvement
- Remove people who are road blocks to improvement and replace them with those who are willing to work collaboratively. Provide a living wage to employees.
What I like about the company
It's a good place to work while looking for another job.
What I dislike about the company
The ownership is set in their ways. Reluctant to modernize, and pays employees as little as possible.
