Leadership expected their employee to hear instructions once, take notes, only ask once, and you're on your own after that. Struggle was the name of the game. If you had to ask several times, it was assumed you were not listening and/or were incompetent. The development phase of one's position was a very steep curve and after half an initial term in spite of one's best efforts, the gavel had fallen already for the most part.
Management in the position I worked continued one's employment based on how they felt about one's personality, not based upon actual measured work performance.
