Suggestions for improvement
- Overall the executives
Benefits package very good, challenging job if in IT, able to telecommute in most, but not all, circumstances.
You must be ready to perform work stoppage assignments if the unions go on strike. You can be assigned anywhere doing whatever associate job they decide. The management in IT was pitiful. Planning is rarely done because the upper levels change their direction frequently on projects. With staff scattered throughout the country, face-to-face time with team members is virtually impossible, so work must be done via email, SameTime text or phone calls. Budgets are set low to preserve the profits and award money for executives, sacrificing training, travel and equipment dollars for IT workers. There is NO work-life balance in IT - you work 24/7, especially nights and weekends at their discretion. Although this is not unique to VZ, it is what they expect of you. Family and health come second to meeting a deadline date. Deadlines are often set with no regard to the actual hours the staff must commit to a project. At least quarterly, rounds of layoffs, or RIFS, are done to compensate for poor budget planning. Your are simply a number on a balance sheet to them, not a human being.
Managed by fear tactics. Threat of suspensions and firings every day for petty offenses
