Company Culture

Many people complain, but no one tries to make it better.

Support from management

My direct boss looks our for himself and not his workers

Teamwork

There is some dead weight, but the leadership doesn't care as long as no one outside the school complains

Freedom to work independently

You have a lot of autonomy; you can work hard and do a good job or do very little, no one cares

Internal Communication

Nonexistent! The administration might say something one day and do something else the next without telling us why.

Gender Equality

I'm not sure on this one, but it is more likely they will come down on a white male faculty member faster than someone in a protected class, just to keep up appearances.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I don't think they care.

Career Development

They not could care less. You get no reward for doing extra. You can do all kinds of professional development and never even be recognized for it.

Overall compensation for your work

I'd give this five stars, but for what you have to put up with, one is not paid enough.

Office / Work Environment

The administration likes to keep there thumb on you. They remind you that you will not be able to get a job anywhere else without their recommendation, so they make you feel trapped.

Environmental Friendliness

The school likes to make every think they care, but it is just window dressing.

Work-Life Balance

If it were not for the long vacation breaks, this job would be intolerable.

Company Image

The school likes to think they are top notch, but in reality, it is second tier.

Job Security

Just make everyone happy, and you will be fine.

Handicapped Accessibility

The campus is fairly new and up to ADA standards.

Workplace Safety

Again, it is just appearances. My work conditions/safety would never be tolerated in industry.

Challenging Work

My biggest reward is the fact that I can challenge myself to do better every day. However, I have to be careful not to challenge the students too much as that might bring complaints, which the administration hates.

Inclusive / Diverse

Again, this is something that gets a lot of window dressing, but it's a joke.

Suggestions for improvement

  • The teachers are the life and reputation of the school. Many work really hard to challenge their students to learn, but get no support.

What I like about the company

There are a few very strong students with whom you can do great things.

What I dislike about the company

They don't care about the teachers. You are replaceable as far as they are concerned. This was different under the old administration. You really are paid to make the students happy, not for your teaching. Give out mostly A grades (75% or more), and you'll be fine.
