Summer time was dreadful a/c nope none there was times I would have to roll my pant legs up then get yelled at because my uniform was incorrect! Those who would correct are the ones that say behind a desk with a fan in their face. You walk into the front door it was decent not very welcoming and the decor is dark. But then you enter the elevator first floor bam! Step out you always get a strong urine smell and the walls are dingy and uncomfortable. Same with the second floor.
Support from management
Supervisors would only step up when it was too late, for example other shifts leaving dirty bedpans on the patients beds! No responding to a serious situation, and some seem oblivious on how to manage staff.
Every shift was short handed, cna's would get no help with transportation so in order for them to get what they needed they'd take short cuts, not do it or worse put the patients in danger and do what should take two people, do it single. When anyone would ask for help it was like you told the other person they couldn't take a cigarette brake. Because that is what every employee looked forward to. Not the feeling of pride in helping other. But when they could smoke, eat and get paid.
There was no communication, it was one sided information. There was no open door policy no one cares to hear your concerns especially the DON. Put it in writing and she'll politely toss it into the trash.
Office / Work Environment
Employees had to park on in lighted streets and parking lots in the winter you are lucky if you didn't slip and fall.
I volunteered at this nursing home in 2004 my mother worked at this place from 1997-2005 it was better then. Until... And elderly resident got out and was found dead. Very true story! After that incident they change a lot of things all the door to the outside have code boxes which is wonderful yet makes those staying there feel like a prisoner. Also back k. The day there was Union strikes every week, workers wanting better supplies for the residents that took a few years to make right. They have been in the news for violations. All I'm sure can be researched.
Suggestions for improvement
- Close it. It has had problems since I've volunteered and my family member has worked there. 1994 and still going down hill.
What I like about the company
Honestly nothing. That place made me rethink my career. I am thankful for that, since I am now in a job that I'm advancing in and feel like I'm doing good for the community.
What I dislike about the company
Workers where taken for granted, supplies were never stocked, towels were stained, pluming hardly worked and the rooms small and cramped.
