Company Culture

The people here will smile at you while they stab you in the back

Support from management

Their support comes in the form of a paycheck

Teamwork

Teamwork? What team? There are barely enough employees to get any of the work done after working 80 hour weeks

Freedom to work independently

Micromanagement ridden environment says otherwise

Internal Communication

Internal communication only revolves around negativity and what the "leader" can find to complain about (even of you do a great job).

Gender Equality

Visa places a huge emphasis on gender equality, if by gender equality you mean only females have an advantage.

Attitude towards older colleagues

They dont hire older people, visa is so proud of the youthfulness within the employee base.

Overall compensation for your work

Compensation is good, if you dont do the math to find out your truly hourly rate.

Office / Work Environment

Sweatshop, at least you can dress however you like

Work-Life Balance

This is non existent. Going on vacation? Hopefully you can take your computer and dont want to experience vacation.

Inclusive / Diverse

Visa diversity equals discrimination of others. If you have applied here in IT over the last 5 years and your name is close to "John Smith" you didnt get a call because your name was "John Smith" and you probably dont fit the reverse discrimination mold. There is no merit based hiring or promoting at this organization.

Company Culture

Visa expects too much from their employees. They pay well, but it comes at a price, usually your health. It is a VERY stressful environment.

Support from management

Visa expects too much from their employees. They pay well, but it comes at a price, usually your health. It is a VERY stressful environment.

Freedom to work independently

They claim to want employees to take initiative and make decisions. However, if the company doesn't like the result, your Manager will not have your back.

Gender Equality

Except for a token few, the vast majority of upper management is male. There are very few women to be found in the upper echelon of Visa.

Attitude towards older colleagues

It's not too bad overall but I have seen instances of the company getting rid of older, very experienced, employees to hire younger cheaper labor. This happens in many companies but it is a problem with Visa because they really need employees who are very experienced.

Overall compensation for your work

Visa pays well and gives good bonuses.

Office / Work Environment

This is a mixed bag. The building they built is extremely nice and well suited for work. However, the other offices they lease, in a building nearby, are terrible.

Environmental Friendliness

The company is pretty good about recycling.

Work-Life Balance

You work a Lot of hours, and end up thinking about work a lot of the time when you're home.

Job Security

I held two positions at Visa. One was somewhat "stable" and the other wasn't.

Challenging Work

Very challenging. There was always way to much work to be done and the employees are often set up to fail because of it.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I've kind of already said it - instead of simply relying on management for company improvements, LISTEN to the workers that are actually doing the daily work (including interacting directly with clients) and take their feedback very seriously. There are also way too many managers so the company is quite top-heavy.

What I like about the company

I learned a tremendous amount about project management. Also, as mentioned, the income and benefits were good. There were a lot of very intelligent co-workers and a few I really enjoyed working with.

What I dislike about the company

Upper management makes decisions about the day-to-day company processes even though they truly have no idea what the worker-bee employees do to make the company run well. Unfortunately, they break what doesn't need to be fixed, and don't fix many of the real problems. They need to solicit anonymous feedback from the workers and take that feedback seriously when making changes. They simply don't consult the people who could be very helpful in improving company function. The direct managers often don't understand what is really needed--and yet, they are the ones who are listened to by upper management.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Letting a negative manager run the whole team. Keeping someone that does everything else but their own work.

What I like about the company

He and management are very encouraging and open. They actually want to see you grow and support you.

What I dislike about the company

Faster growth opportunities need to be made as promised as hiring time. Keeping jobs in-house rather than contractors and or off shoring them.
