Support from management
The managers did not manage. They let 1 employee run them and dictate the entire department.
While the company is very team oriented, my department was very cut throat. Often employees felt threatened by other workers and would tattle on others even if they did nothing wrong.
There is a very high turnover at this company. This speaks volumes.
I was hired on expecting one career and ended up not being developed at all. I regressed in my career here and it caused me to fall out of love with Accounting. My degree was not utilized and the environment was a nice office, but a poor team and little to no respect. A bad boss goes a long way in workplace happiness and a team mentality.
Suggestions for improvement
- Better train your management staff to be able to deal with certain situations. Train them to be leaders and not be managed by their employees.
What I like about the company
Compensation and a growing company offers opportunity, but you need to be with the right department.
Great company to go out with. Meaning they treat their employees well each year with lunches, parties, and prizes.
What I dislike about the company
Management was poor. The upper tier is great while the mid level management was often too timid and unable to keep employees happy. In most cases the manager was overpowered by one employee and told how he was going to do his job. He was never properly trained and that impacted his ability to run the department.
Too much focus on continuous improvement and not enough focus on core work. I think it is great to shoot for a more organized streamlined system but when you HAVE to come up with 2-5 ideas a week and then spend hours a week trying to attain them your core work suffers.
