Suggestions for improvement

  • The job again in of itself is easy. However, a lot of return items are being processed as junk. Which is how wayfair determines an item to not be able to be resold again. Once this happens it is destroyed in the sites local compactor. Unfortunately, these items could have possibly been resold at a discount versus being destroyed, or donated to local charities.

What I like about the company

This job was a good time with being able to socialize with your coworkers. Even though i was working in the summer and the temperature was something awful. We were usually not bothered if we talked or socialized with your other coworkers.

Had a few associates we were able to joke with and get good laughs that would help the day move along, before you knew it, it was time to head home!

What I dislike about the company

Low wages compared to similar jobs. The job in of itself is VERY simple and easy to perform. However, local competition for the same field/line of work pays a bit more that makes them more appealing than this employer.

There were also very unsafe working conditions, one of which involved a trailer being unloaded. As the dock doors do not have dock locks, as a trailer was being unloaded, a yard dog(truck driver just in the trailer yard) hooked up to this trailer, by accident, and pulled it away from the building with the two workers still in the back, luckily the were not thrown from the trailer, but a good amount of items fell out before the driver realized he made a mistake.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Just being able to be given the chance to be a salaried employee where I don’t have to be stressed out about clocking in and out and the ability to be trusted as an employee because I feel that sometimes they think that we are stealing time.

What I like about the company

Wayfair has given me many opportunities and have been very lucky to be promoted early on as a specialist. Everybody gets along very well with each other the atmosphere is great. Wayfair gives us wonderful benefits including stocks equity really good paid time off packages and the ability to work from home overall it’s been a positive experience during my two year career at Wayfair and I hope to continue working there and growing as an employee.

What I dislike about the company

Recently we’ve made the transition of having level two employees becoming hourly employees rather than salaried and I am forced under the FLSA labor act that I have to clock in as an hourly employee. I completely disapprove of this I feel like I am restricted and I have worked too long and too hard as an hourly employee to have been able to have the chance to be salaried to then become hourly again. I think it’s a terrible loss and Wayfair needs to do a better job at maintaining the time clock.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would increase the salary for those who are not in certain departments. Merchandising, creative, and others barely make enough to sustain a life worth living. Also, why are we still not allowed to work from home? I understand wanting to foster a collaborative culture. but sometimes people need to work from home, and it should always be an available option.

What I like about the company

The most positive aspect is the company culture. Everyone is so excited to be doing the work we are doing and everyone genuinely wants to help each other succeed. The office is very nice and promotes collaboration and creates a very positive work space. The kitchens are well stocked with snacks and fruit, and there are plenty of food options nearby. The location is very desirable and is close to many modes of public transportation.

What I dislike about the company

The most negative aspect is the salary. For many of us, we are being paid well below market value and it is pretty frustrating. The engineers within the company get paid almost double, even if they are fresh out of college, yet those of us that have been here for multiple years still aren't hitting a salary high enough to pay rent in the city. While the location is desirable, it is in one of the most expensive cities in the US and pay should be according. If you expect people to be able to live anywhere nearby, cost of living needs to be more of a factor.
