Not a positive work environment, at all.
Support from management
Not only are you on your own, management actively works against you. Managers exibit poor planning, lack of communication, and complete ignorance of the work being done. When you fail, you are always used as a scapegoat.
Freedom to work independently
No autonomy. You will be treated like a child.
One way communication. Top down.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Older workers are preferred over younger workers. Long serving employees are treated far worse than newer employees.
Zero career development.
NONE AT All.
Overall compensation for your work
Wages are far below the industry average. Don't take a job here for a low starting wage thinking that your pay will increase with experience. It simply does not happen. Werner uses every dirty trick you can imagine to keep wages low.
Benefits are available, but it's not affordable.
Office / Work Environment
The buildings are heated. The toilets flush, and some of the vending machines work. Expect lots of noise dust, grease, unless you're a manager.
Expect to work weekends and holidays. Expect to stay on the shift you were hired on. Expect to catch hell if your child gets sick and you miss work. Managers are not family friendly.
I don't like people to know I work for Werner.
Management looks at workers as a disposable commodity. Certain managers look for reasons to fire people.
Werner avoids disabled employees. If you become disabled through illness or injury, expect to lose your job.
There's a puppet safety program that tries to reduce workers comp claims.
No. Difficult jobs are often met with a negative comments. Example, "You should have finished that faster"
Suggestions for improvement
- Make this place better for everyone else who is not an established manager or senior truck driver.
What I like about the company
I have a couple coworkers that I enjoys working with. I can't really think of anything else.
What I dislike about the company
Low wages for the industry and low wages compared to newer employees.
Expensive health Isurance.
Managers that sneak around looking for people to yell at. Managers look at workers as disposable.
One way in and out that is usually blocked by trucks. Expect to wait unpaid 10-20 minutes after you shift ends just to leave the workplace. Trucks blocking the workplace entrance are not considered a valid excuse for being late. Yearly employee performance review process is always insulting and makes everyone want to quit. You are required to use vacation days for every reason for not being at work for scheduled work hours. If you wake up sick or your child wakes up sick, you're looked at as irresponsible for missing work.
If you're over 50, don't need health insurance, (don't have kids or a mortgage) and negotiate your pay coming in the door, you can get by here at Werner. If you have kids, need (family) health insurance, and have normal living costs associated with family life, you should avoid werner.
