- Wes Publishing Co.07.Dec 2015
The culture at WES Publishing/DERMASCOPE Magazine is terrible. There is a click that has been there for years (3 main people) that remain and the new people hired only last 1-2 years at most before they move on elsewhere. Very awkward and abusive environment to work in.
Support from management
Leaders are power-hungry and don't care about their employees.
DERMASCOPE Magazine does not know the meaning of teamwork.
Freedom to work independently
The lowest positions do all the work and get no appreciation.
There are never meetings with the whole team. Therefore, no one knows what is going on ever.
No appreciation. No raises given. Nothing.
Attitude towards older colleagues
They treat old colleagues bad and let them go without notice simply because they are older.
Overall compensation for your work
There are no benefits and their wages are very very low (no more than $12/hour for incoming employees with college degrees).
Office / Work Environment
They are not up-to-date and have no updated equipment (computers fail daily, printer dies, etc.). The noise is terrible because the owner's daughter is allowed to bring her baby to work (imagine trying to work while listening to crying all day long).
They don't care about your family. They only care about themselves so if you have family obligations, they will not understand.
No. Your job could be compromised at any time.
No. The work is very easy and the same every month... Hard to be proud of something that is repeated monthly.
Inclusive / Diverse
No, they don't take opinions well. If you voice your opinion, they will terminate you or just talk about you behind you back and never give you a raise. They like robots to work there, not people with their own minds.
Suggestions for improvement
- They need to respect all their employees and give them fair wages. They need to keep promises or not make them at all. They should not hire people in the place of others without telling the first employee about it. They need to learn respect and the meaning of teamwork. They really need to get organized and figure out how to run a successful company.
What I like about the company
The only good things are that they offer paid time off and a week of vacation every year after you've been there for 3 months.
What I dislike about the company
There is no appreciation given, no job security and no respect. They hire young people and tell them they will eventually move up, but they never end up getting promoted. They make many promises that they don't keep and don't care about their employees at all. Someone with a college degree should make more than they offer and should be treated better. They only care about their family - not the families of their employees.
