Suggestions for improvement
- I would recommend a more open discussion on how to improve inter-department support. As Winthrop employees, we have an obligation to provide quality services to all of our patients; it's hard to provide that when numerous departments feel belittled, segregated, and demoralized by one another. I believe the only way to provide optimal healthcare is through support by all departments of the hospital.
What I like about the company
As a patient transporter, I feel it's my duty to bring patients to their testing sites/destinations safely and in a timely manner. That being said, I take it upon myself to ensure that they are comfortable and as relaxed as possible when undergoing potentially stressful situations. For example, if a patient is expecting to be subject to a major procedure, I feel it's my job as a patient transporter to ensure that they're receiving the best care by top professionals who genuinely care about their well-being. That being said, I perform tasks that can make their stay at NYU Winthrop as comfortable as possible; whether it be getting them a cup of water to giving a pep-talk before a test or procedure. I love my job, and believe NYU Winthrop is an optimalplace to work if you're interested in working in the healthcare industry.
What I dislike about the company
I disapprove of negative staff interactions between departments. While working at NYU Winthrop, I've experienced a "cliquiness" among departments. It seems like every department/pavilion is out for themselves, and doesn't offer support to one another with the exception of a handful of individuals. I'd like to see a change as this behavior, since we all should work as a unit in hopes of providing top quality healthcare.
