Support from management
The management team was not receptive to ideas initiated by workers. They seemed to have closed minds when it came to employee ideas and suggestions
Teamwork was only exhibited between employees. Management rarely worked with employees to find common ground solutions
The work is heavy and the conditions are hot.
Office / Work Environment
There is a lot of heavy lifting with little or no training or support apparatis.
In the summer time you are required to work long hours in many cases. So work-family balance is dictated by company need.
The middle management of the company has a pretty quick trigger, and with Tennessee's labor laws being as weak as they are you have little if no job security. I have witnessed employees getting dismissed in a "whim".
Suggestions for improvement
- Wirtgen North America has grown in to a company that no longer seems to value its blue collar workers fairly. They replace full time blue collar workers with temporary employees on a whim. The turnover rate for blue collar workers vs white collar workers is at least 20 to 1.
What I like about the company
Wirtgen did have a really nice Christmas party for the children separate from its adult parties.
What I dislike about the company
The wages were so low that an employee can not live off their income. The management had become aggressive toward its blue collar workers by segregating department functions and even restrooms.
